Shell Editor

Anyway to make the posting form a shell editor that can be an external program?

I only say this because I just had a fucking pop-up from another window interupt my active window and delete a long post I made.

I know, I know...cases like that may be rare, but wouldn't it be kewl! smile

er...maybe not. Ah well...I'll let it out there to ponder over anyway. smile

It's technically possible to have some kind of standard XML interface that a client could read and post to, but I've never seen a BBS that was motivated to develop this kind of technology. hmm

Something else that would be nice, now that you mention it, is some kind of offline reading/posting program that acts more like a word-processor, with bold, italic, and whatnot functions handled the way a word-processor does--and only changed into BBS codes behind the scenes when the post is submitted (presumably through the aforementioned XML interface).

Interestingly, there are some sites that try to do the word-processor functions through the browser sorta, using JavaScript, but there pretty klunky, and it does nothing to help with the problem of lost posts.

Oh well...interesting thought...

Get a popup blocker - Meaya makes a good one, and Google Toolbar comes with it free.

Or, Use a different browser to visit Prince.org, like Mozilla Firebird.

There's actually an extension for firebird which lets you use another editor to edit textareas... but I didn't get it to work when I tried it. It's a good idea, though. You can always just write your response in another editor and then paste it into the org, I do that sometimes...
