The Smut Forum

Dear all and everyone,

Realise its been awhile since I've visited and I'm amazed that you've now created a forum especially for smut.

I've heard through the grapevine that because of this atrocity (sp?) that quite afew have already condemned the forums for it and/ or left. And that worse of all you are now gonna have a age limit to 18+. Being 17 I'm objecting and even though I'm not here as often as I used to be, its annoyed me to think that I could no longer be allowed on the site because of a single forum.

Could u maybe just have an age restriction on that particular forum or something if you are gonna go ahead with it.

Cheers.

(don't like moaning but just felt i had to boxed )

JaneyPoosX (and probably various others)
JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Now what I am isn't it and what is it is strange and frightening to me...

My understanding was that membership to the entire Org was gonna have an age restriction--this was in Ben's mind before the new forum came into being. If memory serves me correctly, the 18 & over issue was first discussed because of an underage Orger being sexually "propositioned" (in a non-serious way) by an older Orger. This brought up safety issues, and the Mods started talking about making sure the Org members were adults.

Secondly--with the new forum, from what I can tell, the site really is no different as far as content goes. All of the stuff that's posted in the LS&R Forum would've/could've been posted in GD. Now it's just in its own separate forum.

I understand why people feel it's inappropriate to give the material its own forum, and I understand why they feel the "integrity" of the place may be jeopardized. Some people have no class at all when discussing sexuality, and behave like they're still 10 yrs old. But as long as the joint is moderated appropriately, I think it should be ok...

(I hope!!)

to those of you who are still complaining about this issue i'd like answers to these questions:

did you create this website?
do you maintain it?
do you pay a fee to access this site?
are the owners of this site obligated to abide by your opinions?

and when your answers to all of the above is "no" (obviously) then shucks kiddies. give thanks that you can even access this site without paying a fee and that those who DO own and maintain it have tried to please us

and if this new forum bothers you that much, if you can't manage to simply ignore the presence of a forum you don't approve of and if you really, REALLY are offended by the sinmple fact that it exists then go start your own "smut" free website ok?

nothing personal.

Great post XxaxX smile

Although I'm not a big fan of the new forum... this is what the Prince.org community voted for smile So I think it is reasonable for us to give it a try. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, but at least Ben listened to the requests, had a poll on the subject, and took action based on the vote.

I believe we're going to add a notice about the forums being for over 18s... watch this space.

One positive aspect of the new forum is that for those that find all the flirty/smutty/sexy stuff a bit pointless, you can now avoid it entirely by not going to that forum.

That will be a sad day.
Where will all the younger Prince fans go then?
NPGMC I suppose.

Well we can't stop younger fans coming here if they want to. The point is, given that this site is mostly adults engaged in adult conversation, there's no harm in warning people of that.

Personally if I was a parent I'm not sure I'd allow my kids to just surf away to their hearts' content unsupervised anyway. It's not our job to play parental roles here... people visit the site at their own risk.

It is important however that Prince.org is protected legally from any implications of a minor viewing content that is unsuitable / illegal in their country of origin. You can appreciate that, I am sure.

To paraphrase something Ben said recently:
The system we are working on simply requires a visitor to state they are 18 or over, and that they understand the vast majority of people on the site are adults and speak freely as adults. We feel that our website is probably inappropriate for unsupervised minors anyway, regardless of the "romance" forum, and we feel it is reasonable to warn people of that

Yes, absolutely. I guess the sort of language generally used here would be considered by many to be unsuitable for minors anyway.
And you make a very good point that it's not your (or anyone elses) job to play the role of a parent here.

PrinceU18.org here we come! lol

Haha, not a bad idea, since Prince seems to be playing "parent" nowadays by protecting us all by censoring out the rude words from his old lyrics smile

The way I see it, if a parent sees fit to allow their kids to visit this site unsupervised... there isn't much we can do about that. All we can do is provide warnings as best we can, as to the nature of the content.

We see the same argument used against violent videogames all the time... people complaining about games like "Grand Theft Auto" etc. The point is here - those games are for adults, and they are marked clearly as being for over eighteens only. If a parent chooses to buy the game for their underage son or daughter despite the warnings, there's not much we can do about it. It is down to every parent to take responsibility for monitoring their child's hobbies and development, and keep themselves informed regarding the nature of the content they have access to in games, DVDs, magazines, internet etc.

Of course, there is far worse on the net than Prince.org smile

I know very few people under the age of 18 who are into prince these days. So I wouldn't look at that as a major issue on here.

Besides, theres a zillion porn sites out there with no warnings, that pose a much greater threat. If someone were going to go on a lawsuit rampage against sites with obscene content thats accessible to minors, Prince.org would probabbly be at the far bottom of their list, if at all.
