Question:

How do you divide up the labor on the site amongst the Mods? I mean: which of you takes care of what particular responsibilities? I ask because most of the time it seems that only Ben, Ian (and now Dansa, a bit) are active here, moderating the forums and adding news.

Matt and Lavishh's presence/duties are hard to detect.

I think Matt & Lavish are mainly on pie eating duty.

It just comes down to whoever is online really, when something needs to be done. Each day we have a queue of reported issues to deal with, and then there are private orgnotes from users to go through, emails etc... and then there are things we may spot ourselves in the forums or chat. First on the scene deals with it usually, so we avoid stepping on each others' toes

Other stuff like the event calendar, avatar approval, news updates also needs to be done regularly (Ben mostly manages the news himself) as well as fielding abusive emails from lunatics and cyber-bullies. It's a full day's work

In defence of Matt and LaV... this is all very much a volunteer effort, so we can't really predict when someone will have time for the site and when they won't. I for one am grateful for their help when they have given their time. Luckily having a few mods as we do now, and with the recent addition of Handclaps, gives us better coverage if work or other real-life pressures means some of us have less time for the Org.

Ben has been very active lately on the site also, and has done an incredible job adding lots of behind-the-scenes software and essential moderation tool improvements, driven very much from lessons learned in the past year and a half. So, everyone's doing their bit

There's no magic formula for making the tough transition from being a free-for-all (as the Org used to be) to a more strictly "managed" environment (which we have now, sort of) so we're just seeing how things work and learning and adapting as we go. Certainly I think we'd all agree that getting Handclaps onboard has been a great help. She's fab!

LaVishH is no longer a moderator, simply because she is too busy with her "real life" now. I deeply appreciate her efforts on the site in the past, and hope one day she has time to help us out in the future! Matt historically was more on avatar, event, and news duty, which means he was pretty "hidden"... and I typically only handle news and "customer service" (the "contat us" messages) on a daily basis.

I think it's fair to say that I contribute very little to the moderation of this site. I guess that's mainly due to my personal life getting a bit crazy lately.
(Don't worry, nothing too dramatic! )

It's also down to the fact that I am not a moderator on this site. That doesn't help.
