The only reason I have EVER posted anything in relation to race on this site is because I got totally sick of seeing a billion race threads where people basically said that all white people were racist assholes... after a few million threads talking about how "the man" was keeping people down or whatever, I went the opposite direction. I did the same shit when there were a billion anti-American topics as well.

So, in the interest of peace and harmony, I will state the following:

I am sorry if I have hurt anyone's feelings with anything that I have said. I have only meant to show the other side of the coin in regards to the massive number of race topics. The annoyance that some people feel reading topics from the opposite side is hopefully comparable to the annoyance that many of us feel when reading a million topics about how mistreated some people feel.

I know what you mean Bliss and Cloudbuster, but I don't see why this site isn't the place for it.

Race and issues relating to race are important parts of Prince and his music and always have been. If it seems they are discussed disproportionately here it is for that reason.

I also suspect that this is an American thing as much as anything. I've often seen Europeans express confusion over the way that race is such an issue in the States.

I'll also say that it's a mistake that is often made here to call all that's been going on "childish," "bratty" etc, without recognizing the reasons behind the manner in which race is discussed here. It is quite possible to have intelligent, thoughtful discussions of race and there are many people here who do so (or who try to do so). The problem is not with the number of topics relating to race, but rather with the constant race baiting, from people who post not to learn or teach but simply to "get a response," to "rile people up" etc. THAT is the true childishness: people who can't comment on an issue intelligently so they bait others, sit back, and enjoy the confusion.

I guess that's the internet. But it's a shame. There was a time when this place could have been a site for thoughful discussion, but it was given over to the lowest common denominator of internt adolescent.

I am sick as shit to death of the libertarian topics started here. There was a time when the P&R forum was completely hijacked by liberatarians who did nothing but post "issues of the day" etc. Without ANY discussion on the part of the thread starter. It was like some weird cult out to convert people.

Should we abandon the discussion of politics as well?

It just seems strange to me to say to abandon an entire issue when the discussion is being fucked up by a certain few. I thought that was why we had moderation? It used to be when idiots like IrishEcho posted, people were free to object however they saw fit, and the moderators had no problem with checking that situation. Why is that different now? At least IrishEcho had thoughts of his/her own (despite the fact that they were usually pretty offensive) and usually followed up his/her baiting with detailed explainations (albeit sometimes plagiarized).

I know people think the Org has improved with the more "aggressive" moderation but I completely disagree.

There have still been some great discussions in the P&R forum recently on lots of topics, if you can sift through the flames etc. Promoting good discussion, in a civil, respectful environment is my raison d'etre on the Org, and I'm gonna keep on working to that end.

As for the race-related discussion... I hear your frustration on this MrBliss, and I understand it... but as 2the9s said, I think this can be a valid place to discuss such issues, for those that really want to. I certainly wouldn't want to stifle good, intelligent discussion... It's only when things get abusive and flamey that it gets really irritating - and that is when I step in as moderator and try to fix things. The Org is not unique in this though, I'm sure - emotive topics often lead to heated debate which if left unchecked can devolve into unstructured abuse.

it's really just a few hot-tempered / irrational personalities...the rest is intense, but stimulating.
