what the fuck is up..?

the org has been crashing on me like crazy... up and down like a rollercoaster...

at first i thought it was just because i've moved and switched ISPs... but after last night, i'm wondering if maybe i'm not the only one...

who else is having this problem..?

That sounds like a problem on your side of things, because I haven't had any trouble on the site today.

However there were problems with the entire .org top level domain in the last few days affecting all .org sites so your problems may be a symptom of that.

I believe a change was made so that profiles of deactivated accounts cannot be viewed... is that what you're referring to?

Why would we display profiles of deactivated accounts?

well, for one thing, how is someone supposed to know that a username isn't spoken for if they can't check to see if there's someone already using that name via a profile check? i was going to re-open my Aaron account and just use it from now on, because it appeared that the account was available since no profile came up for it. when i went to register it, it said that it was taken.

but really, why WOULDN'T you?

just asking why the change, as obviously it was fine before.

You just answered your own question there smile People setting up new accounts find out if the name is available during the account creation process, just like every other membership-oriented website out there.

but really, why WOULDN'T you?

It wasn't my decision, but there is no reason why we would display profiles for deactivated accounts.

again, there is no reason why you shouldn't, as they were viewable for over a year, and then, suddenly a change, for no apparent or explained reason.

no, but all i did was ask and you started playing this little game with me. "why should we?" "why shouldn't you?" "why should we?" "why shouldn't you?"

i just wondered if there was a reason for changing the policy that's been in place for over a year.

The reason is that we don't want to display profiles for accounts that have been deactivated. Hope that clears the matter up for you Aaron.
