Updated image-linking instructions?

Hello, might a helpful moderator (Luv4u?) post updated instructions on how to link to an image? Now that Photobucket has started adding watermarks to every free-account post, another platform might be better suited for hosting pics.

Seems like most people are using Imgur -- I've used it myself in the past, with success, but I've just spent the last 30 minutes trying to make it work and for the life of me can't figure it out again. (I just keep getting the 'broken link' logo, no matter how I format the link in my message.) As others are using Imgur without difficulty, we might all benefit from a clear set of instructions on how to link to that platform properly...

Thanks!

yeah. the photobucket photos post ok when the directions in this thread are followed, but now photobucket is slapping a huge watermark over everything. (weirdly, the watermark doesn't appear on the photobucket site itself when you upload a pic, and only shows up when the image is linked to. I'd post an example below, but photobucket doesn't 'recognize' my login credentials half the time, including now. you can see what i'm talking about if you look at the image i posted in the 'politics and religion / armed federal agents' thread.

i've gotten Imgur to work before, but for some reason today, whenever I followed the directions as specified in the thread you mentioned, i get this:

[broken link icon] (using the "insert image" button)

or this:

[img]https://imgur.com/gallery/MTmWmVH[/img]

(using the img tags)

OK, I figured out what the problem was, it's pretty simple. When you post an image to Imgur, the address it gives you looks something like this: https://imgur.com/gallery/MTmWmVH. This works fine as a link to the image on the Imgur site, but not for the "Insert/edit image" button here on the org. Hence the broken link icon.

However, if you right-click on the image in the Imgur gallery (and, I assume, on most images on the web), and select "Copy Image Address," you get a different address. In this case: https://i.imgur.com/9jVgm30.jpeg. Note that the two links above are to the same image. This second link (to the image itself, not to the gallery page where the image exists) works fine here, à la:

This seems kinda obvious now, sorry for the confusion. I was essentially linking to a web page, not an image. The confusion was compounded by the fact that when you ask Imgur for an address/link to the image, it instead gives you an address to the gallery page where the image exists.

Hopefully this will help the next poster who is as slow-witted as I. confused

(For what it's worth, I tried the tips in the links you suggested. The first -- replacing part of the Photobucket URL with "oimg" -- did not work for me, although I can't promise I didn't make an error in trying. The second, I think, is more geared toward those who are attempting to download images directly from the Photobucket site to their hard drive. Again I could be wrong, but as Photobucket refuses to recognize my login credentials, I'm happy to find a way to avoid using it altogether.)

Anyway, thanks for your help while I figured this out.
