Mods - what's the rules on asking quick questions vs google search... Hey there, pretty annoyed at various examples of members - especially newbies - being given abuse for simply asking a question. It really is shit from a customer experience POV & as you well know asking a question is a good ice breaker. Imagine being at a party & trying to strike up a conversation & the other party says "hey idiot, why bother me with that - google it"
So, what's the deal?

can I also add that any newbie or hard core coming on here to ask a Q instead of googling normally gets so much good additional info from many , more sensible hard core.

Just my opinion, but I'm pretty sure almost everything has been discussed in the past. I don't see the harm in someone, new or not, asking a question that has been discussed in the past. Like Purpleized3121 said, bringing up a subject again might bring new info to the subject. We know who the bullies on here are and we know they have to chime in on everything because they know it all, so just ignore them. When a Mod can make a sticky out of a personal complaint of theirs, then certainly there is no harm in asking a question. TRUE BLUE

Since Google exists and everything has been discussed and members like [Members names not allowed in a public forum. Orgnote a mod or the member(s) in private Snip - luv4u] always bite at members whenever they create a thread when asking a question, lets just close the site down. Shut it down. We can't discuss or ask questions on a Prince fan forum then no point of it being up. [Edited 2/3/20 9:09am]

The scolding seems especially daft given that a lot of threads on here then *become* well-ranked on Google for search terms related to obscure Prince topics, and provide really interesting info (Google 'NPG store London', for example). Threads that might seem to some to be about 'obvious' and 'easily Googled' topics become resources for Internet lurkers to come across for years afterwards.

& THAT'S my point.
I have put up various threads that I could have easily googled - BUT chose - correctly to post here as the quality of additional info has always been excellent.
The knowledge bank on here is insane. Shit, if I started a thread on "How tall was Prince" I guarentee that sokmeone will come up with a geneology tree & go back to the root causes of his height!!..Google search? - Prince was 5ft 2"!!

sad actually as BVH is like a bloody ORG Yoda! - he can share so much if he could be arsed !! When he does his threads on reviews for any major new release they are fantatic, really handy, well organised & FUCK ME save US from Googling!!!

You couldn't even be arsed to post this in the correct forum. https://prince.org/msg/3 . Also, a forum isn't a party and a post isn't an icebreaker. . Also note that many experts have left this site ages ago due to the pointless garbage posts. Meanwhile https://www.echoingthesound.org/ is heavily moderated and nonense gets moved pretty quickly to designated "trash bucket" threads and that forum is filled with high-quality posts and information. © Bart Van Hemelen

I agree with your initial issue one million percent--I think I voiced that same opinion previously (but was told that if I would've bothered to google it, I would've seen that there have been other complaints about the same thing before)...I try to give BVH the benefit of the doubt--apparently he speaks multiple languages and English isn't his first language (I speak English, and dabble in Princebonics, but that's it)...I just think he hasn't learned how to play well with others in English (I'm sure he's very cordial and respectful in his native language). Whether this post is in the wrong forum or not it’s something that really needs to be addressed. Sure, there are topics that have been discussed ad naseum. However, that constant petty nature of some of the veteran orgers makes it seems as though there is no need for this website at all. While there are many here who are extremely knowledgeable, there are also a few here who are worth no more than the ability to be the first to post a news article or inadvertently promote their own blogs and websites.
Also, it’d be much easier and less time consuming to ignore a thread than spend time berating anyone. Whether you have a reputation or not douche-baggery isn’t cool and shouldn’t be as tolerated as it is amongst certain folks. [Edited 2/3/20 11:45am]

Some folks ask and usually it is noticeable that they have not searched in any way shape or form BEFORE asking. Especially those that ask rather than first.
There are sources out there on the innernetz to search too besides the org. I could put some sort of source links/list together.......... Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! Case in point: Recently a thread was started about Jacob Armen and possible recording sessions. I wouldn’t consider that a topic that has been beaten into the ground. Regardless, the original poster was summoned to the search bar which.... guess what?: It didn’t specifically answer his question nor shed any new light on the topic. What had the potential to be a good discussion was automatically shut down as a result of what I’ll just call resident douche-baggery. Doing a little research on your own before starting a topic is by all means a good thing. But excuses have to stop being made for asshole behavior. Help is generally well-received when there is no evidence of condescending snark. This isn’t about sensitivity. It’s just common decency and respect for the site. All of this “don’t mind so and so he’s just the resident grump” shit is old and tiring. And it’s hard to ignore when it appears on damn near every thread.

Again, noobs need to do their research/search before they ask a question. If you still cannot find an answer to something and have exhausted all possible sources then yeah ask away. Or some folks will 'direct' you where to look for your answer(s). Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! 2. To the members that police threads, where members ask questions... We did not hire you to police people asking questions. It's one thing if the questions is breaking org rules, but if the person is asking a question that annoys you, that might have been asked before, just pass by the thread.
Two things will happen. Either no one will answer the poster and they will be forced to search on their own, or someone who is interested in the question, will choose to share information/pictuers etc Yes someone people are a bit lazy, but it's not against org rules to ask a question. So pass by it, dont click on it etc but definately don't proceed to preach to the person and waste your time answering something just because it annoys you. Stop, StOp, STOP.
You can report some of these lazy question threads according to Rule #3 : In general, post if you have something to say. If you want to start a new thread, make it worthwhile. Don't be lazy and give a 1-sentence "what do you think about X?". At least explain your position, why, etc... make it interesting to read; you're more likely to get quality responses. Just report it. Don't attack the person.

The old threads have been locked and can't be discussed any further, and that is why new threads on the same topic are created....so people can discuss them.
