how does one make that little trademark symbol?

Go to your Character Map, usually accessible through our Start Menu. It'll pull up all the weird characters you can't type with one or two keystrokes, like the following:

яфΩ₧‡fl◊⅞Ǽ¶¥

Or just copy this: ™

or you can do this...

hold down the ALT key
then, on your keypad to the right, press this keys one by one
