Honest discussion about the moderators and their methods

Maybe I'll get snipped or booted, but what the heck...

Lets have some old-fashion opinion posting of what the org members think of the way the site is moderated. Now, I know the site is goverened by a "he who holds the gold, rules" mindset. I know that its a private site. I know that we are "guests" here. At the same time, the members are what makes the org what it has become.

Perhaps, the moderators would be interested in some honest, uninhibited opinions.

I would like to ask the moderators to observe
and let us "freestyle" for a bit, even for a limited number of posts.

The owners and moderators don't care what we think or want.

They rule this website.

The only why anyone will have Freedom of Speach is to buy this website.

So, how much does it cost?

Lavish and Ian seem to be the most active in terms of moderating, locking, and snipping. But if you look at the site overall all the moderators are pretty lenient.

I wouldn't expect them to catch every BS thread on here, so if they nail your post but not the next guys its not worth taking too personally.

It does seem as if Orgers should be able to give their honest opinions/constructive criticism about the moderators. (Who moderates the moderators?!) But anytime I've ever seen an attempt by an Orger to point out inconsistencies or perceived unfair treatment (some done tastefully, others admittedly more flaming than constructive), it's been met with not-quite-so-veiled threats to delete accounts, mockery, or defensiveness by said moderators. Personal stuff can get in the way of professional moderating behavior, imo, but then again we're all human. My guess is that the bottom line is: if ben sees problematic moderatorship (is that a word, lol?) and doesn't like it, he'll call it to their attention. However, he probably doesn't care to be arsed and enjoys having spare time, thus wouldn't care to make much change in the current regime.

Sorry guys, but I'm locking this thread.

We always welcome feedback regarding moderation issues, however as per the site rules, we encourage people to discuss matters with the moderator concerned privately. Threads like this just look like a floodgate for every disgruntled twat who ever had a post censored to bitch about the moderation, which is clearly not productive.

Additionally, the person who started this thread is just throwing a hissy fit because I've had to remove some of their posts. So it seems to me that the intention of this thread is not to discuss the site but rather to bitch about individual moderation decisions, which is tiresome.

Put simply: there are thousands of unmoderated websites out there. It isn't our intention to be one of them. Our site is moderated heavily, but the site is the better for it in my opinion. Ultimately it isn't for everyone, and if you prefer a freer and less moderated discussion forum, I respect suggest going elsewhere.

"Professional"? We all have real jobs, and real lives. This site is a free service, run in our spare time. This isn't "professional" operation, but I'm sure it is worth at least what you paid for it.

This is utterly offensive, and incorrect. Ben, and the rest of the Prince.org staff, have devoted a huge amount of their free time (and in Ben's case, money - he covers the server costs, hosting etc) to provide you with this free service that you use every day. To bitch about the manner in which we provide it is a bit cheeky in my opinion. Ben wrote all the software for this site, and updates it with new features and fixes all the time. That's a lot of work for a guy who has a full time job and other commitments.
