I get it...And this is forbidden...why? in the past people used 2 just incessantly bump meaningless threads 2 the top of the forum, and not type anything in their post. the mods got sick of it, therefore it is now verboten. this is not a bump, i wuz explainin the whole scenario 2 mistress!

I get it...And this is forbidden...why? It is forbidden because folks get upset when they see too many of one posters name up at the top. (the real reason) This part is a tough one, because there are those who instead of thinking up a new thread, prefers to just look up a subject and start discussing it on a thread already created. Which incidentally was the reason for the search function. Ahhhh... gotta love the org. The rule was created for people, like the thread creator, who wants to keep their thread at the top, so they put the word "bump" or something which doesn't contribute to the discussion - for the sole purpose of keeping it on top where everyone will see it first. Also, because usually when a topic has sunk to pages further back, the subject has usually been discussed and done with.

It's what folks use, just a word - one of many. Bump is used (and I know you know this, Tom, lol) because it "bumps" the thread to the top.

The reason we frown upon "bumping" is that it encourages people to post pointless crap just to see their thread zoom to the top of the page. Which is unacceptable because it is bad for discussion and is an abuse of service this site provides.
Our rules mention "useless" messages, and I consider "bumping" to be utterly without merit

It's what folks use, just a word - one of many. Bump is used (and I know you know this, Tom, lol) because it "bumps" the thread to the top. I seriously have never conciously used the word "bump" or any other word to knock my thread or a thread to the top. LOL. I'm interested in learning more about this tho lol. I still don't get why a particular word causes a thread to go higher. I thought just people posting on the thread will cause it to go higher.
