Indeed. It was the first thread on here in quite a while that was actually spawning interesting conversation, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that the whole thing was deleted with no communication as to why.

I guess the moderators felt that it should be talked about in the catch-all sticky they created for everything that can be deemed in any way critical of Prince. Meanwhile it's totally fine to spam every thread with comments about what a MASSSSSTERPIECE P's latest deleted Tweet is.

Sigh.

The thread pretty much turned into back and forth insults and arguments not relating to the topic, so that's why it was removed.

Either Prince or one of Prince's associates probably requested it be pulled. If Prince wanted the original interview down it wouldn't surpirse me if he wanted to shutdown any form of conversation about it as well.

If that's the case and the org complied, it would be insane.

The link to the interview didn't even work as of this morning. Did Prince have that taken down? Weird.

Wait for a knock on the door. Men dressed in all purple and wearing sunglasses. They'll come round and shine a light in your eyes and you will forget the thread even existed. I'm hiding out in the hills outside Bolton. I'm scared they'll make me forget that Phase One existed. We must never forget.

1. Nobody requested that we remove the thread, despite the original inteview being taken down.

2. Post #5 in this thread is correct. We didn't delete the thread, we hid it due to numerous moderation requests. If any moderator wants to go through the thread, snip out all the nonsensical back-and-forth between orgers and get it back on topic, they may do so and unhide it, but it's Xmas Eve and I certainly don't have the time to.

Well at least we know now. But don't all topics eventually turn into orgers messing with each other? Maybe we can all agree to just talk about the music and not get personal with either each other or Prince. Probably won't happen but that's my Christmas wish smile

How amusing that an interview that disappears due to sensitivities results in a thread that disappears due to sensitivities.

Because the interview was in part about relentless interpretations and speculations, we had to talk about how and why we do those things on the Org.

But all the same... Respect for the hardworking moderators at the Org and Merry Xmas to all.

Yeah, Langebleu gave it the old college try. Mods are definitely hard-working and under-appreciated. I hope they all have a great holiday!

It was pulled by the mods and not by Prince because , it was full of losers spilling ther hate towards Prince. Simple nod It was like all the trolls in one place , the mods should bring it back so newcomers can see who the daily trolls are on prince.org.

that may be your opinion, but legally it's perfectly fine to do

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use

http://copyright.gov/fair-use/

Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 17 U.S.C. § 106 and 17 U.S.C. § 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include:

  1. the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
  2. the nature of the copyrighted work;
  3. the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
  4. the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors

the part in bold is the key point, the part underlined specifically relates to this usage

in a nutshell, it's perfectly fine to post articles on a forum for discussion without breaking any laws, even if the article has not been published. in this case the article has been published, is subsequently available to read all over the internet in many places such as the fan site "the dawn experience" which can be found by googling

So there's currently no thread about it.

Someone start another one. I mean, we CAN discuss actual Prince news right? This is Prince news. Or has the moderation gotten so bad around here that we can't even do that?

1. The thread is temporarily hidden for moderation and it will then be reinstated for continued discussion following moderation. The moderation does not relate to a copyright matter, but rather persistent off-topic discussion.

2. To address the copyright issue raised above, there has been no moderation undertaken with regard to reproduction of the interview on prince.org other than with respect to fair use, specifically in relation to the amount and substantiality of reproduction. The temporarily hidden thread originally quoted the published article in its entirety (and without any known permission to do so). The initial post was therefore abridged with respect to fair use, but retained the link to the original source and attribution to the auther and publisher. The thread continued to allow discussion on the interview with reference to its content and people continued to point to where it could be accessed in its entirety, without cause to moderate.

i understood that, which is why i reposted the article so people could read it. this thread for some reason hasn't descended into off topic trolling and flaming. i presume the org is broken?
