redundant topics in P&R

can we start stickying threads about the same topic again in P&R?

for example, there are currently 5 different threads by people about how much they dislike the Black Lives Matter movement on the P&R front page alone.

"His Life Matters" by Pokeno4Money
and four others, all created the SAME DAY:

"OPEN DISCUSSION on #BlackLivesMatter movement" by PurpleSkipper58 and

"Black Lives Matter give list of demands" and

"MLK’s Niece Slams ‘Black Lives Matter’ Protesters" and
"Poll: Most black people prefer 'all lives matter'", all by OldFriends4Sale

it's just 5 different threads about the exact same thought, especially when 4 of the 5 (all of them but pokeno's) were started on the same day (8/24), and 2 of oldfriends4sale were created within literally less than 5 minutes of one another.

i just dont understand what the point of having 5 different threads, when one would MORE than suffice for the people who dislike the BLM movement to say how much they dislike the BLM movement.

having 5 seperate threads for the same thing seems like forum-clogging, to say the least.

1. His Life Matters - is about Cops and Americans in general. not Black Lives Matters (the subject and purpose of the thread is something different than discussing BLM) "Let's continue to post videos and pictures of unity and positivity, of people from different backgrounds showing love for one another. "

2. MLK's Niece Slam's BLM is about Abortion it's totally about issues of Abortion within Black & Latino communities

3. Black Lives Matters ...list of demans is about their specific focus

4. Poll: All Lives Matter is about All Lives Matter

.

very different topics. Hardly the same thought

It seems your issue is that you think this is about people hating BLM
cant yall just pick one thread to contain all your hate of BLM? do we really need to have 5 of them? -cyborgman in reply #9 of the MLK's Niece Abortion thread
But if another Moderator thinks they can go into 1 sticky, then that is ok

Don't forget the one started by 2freaky that has vanished for some reason.

I'm still wondering why separate cases of police brutality can all be segregated into one thread while we can have multiple, redundant threads about other topics.

I had another question too but I will make a separate thread.

okay, so now the count is up to 9 BLM threads in a few pages. i was just focusing on the 5 that are on the front page since 4 of them were created the same day, and 2 of them less than 5 minutes apart, but 9 is even more silly.

its the same people arguing the same things for the most part. why do we need 9 seperate threads for it?

youre kind of stretching here.

yours about the satanist is absurd and silly tabloid stuff about how satanists abort and then eat fetuses, and is the most ridiculous tabloid sillyness since the erin green rothschild thread.

your MLK neice is about her dislike of BLM, doesnt even mention abortion till post 7 and even then it's buried in a loooong list of her other thoughts, and only became about abortion today and 9 posts into it for reasons no one can figure out.

the title x one is almost 2 months old and is waaaaay back in the pages.

mine is 2 months old and waaaay back in the pages

It doesn't matter if something is on the first page or 4th all live threads are or can be continued.
There is no rule that says 'if it is on the 1st page' Especially when you look at the PMM forum active topics fall back 4-6 pages and regularly end up on the 1st page again.

Check out the Stick.

I don't necessarily think that a sticky is the best way to deal with a glut of threads on a certain topic. What you lose with stickies is that sense of certain topics rising or sinking according to people's interest, which is what gives the forum (and all of the forums) their 'life'.

It seems that what Chris is mentioning above could more easily be taken care of by a bit of 'pruning' to nip new threads on exactly the same topic in the bud, and say to people that there's already a thread on that. Let's say someone has a thread saying the BLM movement is a load of crap, and then there's a new thread saying MLK's nieces says the BLM movement is a load of crap. Well, the latter could easily get closed and the story added to the earlier thread as a new post. If someone else is having a discussion on, say, what they think the demands of the BLM movement should be, well, I don't think it's helpful to have those cross-cutting each other, as they're distinct enough topics to warrant separate threads. Another thread might be about how the movement relates to the Sanders or Clinton campaigns, and that's a distinct topic too.

People may get a bit tired of the topic if they don't like it, but there's no need to lump everything in one sticky. I mean, yes, there's a lot of discussion now, but that won't be the same in 6 months time. And that's kind of what's good about the forum - that it keeps changing to reflect what people are talking about. You kill all that with a sticky, I think.

As thinly-populated as P&R is, I don't see any reason to worry about this. As someone in the crowd said so awesomely in the "Animal House" scene where they're picking the pledges, "We need the dues!"

yes, exactly.

i mean, in one day 2 people started 4 different BLM sucks threads, mostly saying the same thing with minimal difference. 3 of them were started by the same poster, 2 of them in less than 5 minutes of each other. amd that's not counting the other 5 or 6 that were already started and still active.

and it was not even a day that BLM came up in the news to spur a bunch of new posts.

it just looks ridiculous.

I doubt that how it looks is your concern. It is a common occurance for there to be multiple discussion of the same theme yet different avenues of thought

You applied motive to the persons and threads of discussion

your original was cant yall just pick one thread to contain all your HATE of BLM? do we really need to have 5 of them? -cyborgman

You applied the motive of HATE

In this post I'm replying to you say:different BLM SUCKS threads

.

how do you get HATE AND SUCKS from 1. Black Lives Matters Gives Lists of Demands 2. Most Black People Prefer All Lives Matter 3. Behind the Scenes Video of BLM & Hillary

Maybe the problem is your thought process, and intentions

.

Donald Trump prior to this had 10 OPEN discussions Hillary had 9 OPEN discussions there were about 10 OPEN discussions on ABORTION

And there are members who post more and other member who rarely post but just join in on discussions so how many posts a member puts up is not really an issue or you would have had issue with Graycap 2Freaky4Church and a few others. Not to mention the swarm of White Racism/Priviledge threads that no one seems to think looked ridiculous

.
BLACK LIVES MATTER is not a part of the social political scene it will be a part of history whether it continues till we all die or whether it fizzles out by next year.
Do we create a Sticky for the GOP discussions do we create a Sticky for all the Democratic discussions? the Issue is the BLM topics varied, they had different directions.

And just because someone posts a topic doesn't mean it reflects their views or opinion.

It seems we're all agreed there's no need for a sticky - even you and the OP. As you say, 'different avenues of thought' on the same overall topic and a common occurance on the Org, so there's no need to collapse all the 'different directions' into one mulch. Better just to let the different strands of discussion carry on in the main forum, but encourage everyone to take a look if there's already a relevant thread running before starting a new one.
