Is the Org a "Negative" Place? I lurked on the Org about 10-12 years before I actually created an account a few years ago. I look at some of the threads (not just in P&R) and it seems that there are venom-filled fights/comments etc. that are made on them on a routine basis. I was just wondering why sometimes things get so nasty around here? Has it always been this way?? But, I have seen other threads that seem a bit more positive but for this to be a fan site of Prince there's a lot of negativity about him (and about other topics in general). Why is that? yeah it gets rough. some insist that everyone agree and anyone that doesn't must be a liar. Or are spoon fed talking points and do not think for themselves. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

tell me again how planned parenthood is selling fully-grown babies who were birthed and then aborted, and how the deceptively edited video of a person who doesnt even work for PP proves it?

TITIB!
This Is The Internet Baby! And compared to other sites, it's really not that bad. There's always people who enjoy bitching and moaning, dunno Y, but they do. The anonimity gives them protection. The site is the site. Is Bart negative? Or is he just laughing his ass off everytime he posts something and reads the responses? Maybe it's his idea of a joke. Who knows... Hmm, well okay, maybe I should write "Why is P&R such a negative place?" instead??? Oh, but I think the WORST "fights" on here happen either in the Prince Music forum or here in P&R. I usually don't see things in General Discussion heat up as much. Trolls be gone!

Co-sign. I think there should be less censorship and MORE controversy here. It´s a grown folks forum and I doubt that there are any millenials here. And even if there were....it´s the internet baby!

Debates used to be way more heated, controversial, offensive and fun and sexy....and then most orgers left when they found this place too boring. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Okay, about this forum... 9 out of 10 threads here are about race relations in the US and I usually don't join those discussions because I'm not an American. That´s just tough love. People on the org love Prince´s older music so much and are aware that he is still immensely skilled and talented, but, unlike other artists who lose their spark after three or four albums, he is still around and is still successful but he makes the kind of "mistakes" that drive his old school fans insane. It´s a lot of coulda-shoulda-woulda talk. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I have been lurking on the org for a few years and joined not long ago and i already know who to ignore and who are fair

Yeah I am a veteran "lurker" too Yes, you have to know who to ignore and who you can interact with that won't drive you crazy!! Trolls be gone!

Interesting. So there aren't problems with racism there? Trolls be gone!

you would not want to interact with people that hold a different point of view. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Interesting. So there aren't problems with racism there? Problems like that exist everywhere. It's just not as extreme here as it is in the US. In The Hague recently there was also a case of a coloured man being killed by the police and that led to a riot. But it's nowhere near as violent as in the US. We sometimes have shooting incidents, but it seems it's always ten times worse in the US.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
wouldn't the 'ten times' be because the US is a much larger country with more people? Netherlands:16.844.000 million United States: 325.127.000 million

^ It's also possible that the number of guns per capita is a factor:
The Netherlands: 3.9
ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Langeblue is right. Germany is larger than Holland, but not more violent. Americans have been obsessed with guns since the days of the Wild West. That's got something to do with it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I dunno, I assume that you're a white Dutch, correct? I would be interested in getting the opinion of a non-white Dutch about racism there in the Netherlands.... Trolls be gone!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Non-white Dutch are usually Morrocan, Turkish, Somalian or from the Dutch Antilles or Surinam and they're not into Prince (except some of the Surinamers), so you won't find them on this site!
And yes, there is racism here. If your last name is Jansen or Van Vliet or any other common Dutch name, it's easier to find a job than when your last name is Bin Mohammed or something like that. Those things happen. But I think over here, it's more a cultural thing than a race thing. In the 1960s/70s a lot of immigrants from the Morocco and Turkey arrived to do menial jobs. Nobody thought they would stay, but they did. And they let their families come over. Which meant wives from Morocco who never left their village and were illiterate all of a sudden found themselves in a strange country. And their children grew up between those two worlds. And then after 9/11 everything became worse. Muslims were blamed for the attacks, anti-immigrant political parties emerged, some muslims responded by becoming even more muslim. I'd be the last person to say my country has no problems! But still, we don't have as much violence as some other countries. [Edited 8/4/15 14:09pm]

liberty comes at a price. one cost is that people will misuse it. What is important is to be steadfast against those that would exploit a crisis to take away a basic civil liberty. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

That's interesting...From what I have personally seen and read about, it seems that Europe's non-white population is growing and the white population is shrinking rapidly. This probably also contributed to the xenophoboa and racism that has been taking over Europe over the past few decades. Trolls be gone!

I don't actually think the Org is a negative place There is a lot of positivity here I think that the negative is just outrageous, so it looks extremely big And of course there are people who take liberties with hiding behind anonymous IDs to take types of opinions to the 9th power of negative

That's true. There is this pioneer spirit in America that you can make it there free from the restrictions of European society, but unfortunately, there were already people living there and they had to be removed. The whole history about America, north AND south is about Europeans moving in and violently taking the land, the whole mothafuckin' continent, from the people who lived there. Americans live on stolen land. Taken with guns. Sorry if I'm being a bit harsh, but that's the way I see it. And you really cannot say the same thing about Switzerland. They manage to live together while speaking four different languages.

Ahem....I´m Turkish, and I know a few other Turkish Prince fans. Prince is quite popular among my generation. But I don´t know about Dutch-Turks. They might have a different taste in music. What I do know is that Turkish döner kebaps are much, much better in Germany compared to what passes as a döner kebap in the Netherlands. And the mentality is a bit different, too. At least based on my experience and encounters I´ve had in the Netherlands. But yes, technically you might be right because I am not Dutch. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid.
