Hi posting this as a thread coz I dont know how to contact prince.org directly. Had a n email saying I have an org note. OPened it and it's saying they want a business relationship with me. They have given me an email address to reply which I haven't. Anyone else had this -I am very wary of it's intent. The profile user has never left topic replies since joining in February. I'm wondering whether this is a fraud thing. But if it's done via Prince .org I don't know how. I haven't posted username here just in case.

Any ideas?

It's spam. I got it too. Maybe everyone got it.

I sent them an orgnote and suggested where they should go.

I got this spam message too, and it was very annoying as I had just got back from burying my biological father and wanted some cheering up. The fact that one spammer has got through now, means that more are likely to follow, so I think we need to impose newrules on joining.

1. Ensure they have a valid ISP address and they are in the country, they state to be, adimre said they were French, but the name sounded like some African Muslim name, which suggests again West Africa probably Nigeria.

2. They have to answer 2 or 3 basic questions about Prince, like "Name his 1984 Hit album and movie" and another question, where they state what they like about Prince, their favourite songs and albums. I know they are there now, but seem to be voluntary, as Adimre's profile (I checked it) had none of these answers stated.

3. The security was too lax here, we need to beef it up.

4. All new members to do a introduction post in a new thread for newbies when they join up.

5. Report spam button to be included in the action bar at the bottom of each post. It saves work for the mods and saves the org for us TRUE fans.

6. We need to be vigilant, we were lucky that the mods acted staright away and thanks for that Mods , but prevention is always better than cure. Once one spammer is through, they tell the others and we get bombarded. It will be Russian brides, knockoff Vigara, Nigerian money scams, pet scams, romance scams, fake Iphones and Jordans Chinese bootleg and knock off products and other crap before we know it.

This spammer got through, and we will likely have the occasional spammer that gets through the net in the future too. As you have said, it's important that people act cautiously to stay safe online, whether on prince.org or elsewehere.

However, we currently block most potential spam attacks, so this was unusual. If you see anything suspect like this, simply drop an org note to a mod, or hit the Report To Moderator button so we can deal with it.

Thanks for the suggestions. We have discussed measures in the past for further validating accounts. In the meantime, to give you an understanding of the task, over 500 new accounts are opened each week (I know because I do a count every so often). Most of these need filtering out. I usually pour myself a small glass of wine to help cope with the daily ordeal, but if we have a busy day, I might have to have a second glass ... and then there's a danger I let one through.

I am willing to help. My suggestions came from another forum I am on called Stampboards, full of volunteer mods, who have to filter out spam and scam accounts on a daily basis. And like you guys, there are no ads and its a great experience. They have the intro post to weed out spammers and they all do it out of kindness.

In the stamp world, we get all the usual Nigerian millionaire scams, romance scammers, peopleselling fake sex pills and DVD's, Jordans, clothes. But we also get many begging letters about wanting stamps from the Ukraine, Iraq, India, and other 3rd world places, some even border on blackmail.

We were lucky now, but some of our members may be 13, or 14 or people with very gullible sensibilities and members of limited intellect who could fall for these types of scams. I don't envy your jobs though and remember recent problems like.

1. The guy who spammed gay porno gifs when Art Official Age was released.

2. Mine and Lust's recent blow ups with hausofmoi

3. Whenever anyone says something racist or disrespectful in the Politics forum.

4. Having to control endless dupe threads about racist cops and Michael Jackson.

Basically what I am saying, is drink the whole bottle if you need too, you guys do a great job.
