Censorship

Who decides what is offensive or not???
If comments make you uncomfortable are they necessarily offensive? Just a question who decides which posts are censored or not besides the monitiors?
sorry if that was over your head...jump up and try to catch the point next time.

LaVisHh

This one is tough to explain, but I will try my best.

First we start with the org rules:

Last updated August 21, 2002

Rules of the Discussion Forums
The following rules apply to posts in all prince.org discussion forums, including the content of "signatures":
Note that these rules are in addition to the terms of service you agreed to upon registering.

Do not post racist or 'hateful' material.
The final say will, as always, be the moderators', but err on the side of caution. This means no racist comments, period. Want to discuss racism in the proper forum? That's OK. Direct a racist comment at an ethnic group or person? Not OK, and plan to have your account removed if you do so. We are extremely serious about this. prince.org is not a place for racial bigotry or ethnic hatred.
Be civilized, and try to keep posts "clean".
Don't be hateful or abusive or harass others. Do not start, engage in, or encourage 'flame wars'. A good general rule: "criticize ideas, not people." Personal/racial/ethnic/gender-based insults, slurs, or derisive comments will not be tolerated. Yes, you can talk about sex, but try not to be vulgar or obscene. Profanity (in moderation) is OK in general, but directed at someone in particular is generally NOT. Any language which encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense or violate the rights of others (in the moderator's opinion) is grounds for account deletion.
Don't post trolls/ads/spam/get-rich-quick schemes/other junk.
Don't make posts that are inflammatory just to get people riled up. Don't post useless off-topic stuff. In general, don't post advertisements. Advertising may be allowed in certain circumstances; ask a moderator privately before posting. If a post is mostly just an ad for another website, it will likely be removed. Do not create "devote-a-threads" or other useless messages.
You're responsible for what you write.
Individual authors of prince.org messages are solely responsible for their content, and prince.org isn't interested in encouraging any illegal activity. Specifically, don't solicit to violate copyright law (via trading mp3s/CD-Rs/bootlegs, or whatever), publish people's personal information or slanderous statements, or anything else that might violates someone's privacy. Threats against another person will be taken seriously. We cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies bearing appropriate paperwork.
Keep messages on-topic, and don't cross-post.
Post in the appropriate forum for your topic, and don't post similar messages in multiple forums.
Moderators have absolute rights.
prince.org administrators and moderators reserve the right to edit, relocate and/or remove any message, at any time, for any reason. Consider all editing decisions final. If you don't agree with a decision, you may discuss it with the moderator who made the judgement in private, but you aren't 'entitled' to a "hearing" or even a response. The rules outlined on this page, above, will be used as moderation guidelines.
Remember that the prince.org discussion forums are moderated by a group of people who have volunteered to put themselves in the position of making difficult judgement calls. Following these guidelines/rules makes their life easier, and everyone's experience visiting prince.org better. Please report any messages violating these rules to the moderators.

This is something everyone must agree to before posting. Pretty much the basis for moderation.

Secondly, the use of the "Report msg to moderator" link that appears just below every post in the forums should be used. If anyone sees the rules being broken, or feels they are being flamed (attacked, called names, etc)... they are advised to have the moderators review the report and then decide what to do.

Often times this must be handled on a case by case basis, as it would be impossible to cover every situation within the general rules. At this point, the moderator who responded to the report has to determine (using the rules, what the comments were by the reporter, and their own judgement) exactly what to do.

At this point, it may be edited, deleted, locked, or nothing at all done. It really depends on the variables discussed above.

Hope this helps.

biggrin

Short answer - we decide.

We make a decision using our own judgement. We use the site rules as guidelines (which is quite clear about content such as hateful content, racism etc) and we make our own decisions when issues are not provided for by the site rules.

thank you for taking off the mayte cheating on prince thread. i posted my thoughts on healthy babies, and what my health problems were concerning my wanting to get pregnant. the issue of the article to me was the baby passing. there were some positive responses from a vegetarian who's having a successful pregnancy,i wished her congratulations, a nutritionist and most important to me someone thanked me for the information i gave on the diseases themselves and thought that acoholism and drugs were the only ways a baby could have birthdefects. well im very glad that i atleast helped one person. i was not condeming vegetarianism it should be a womans choice, not forced upon her (if that was the case). i would rather see more positive posts about prince on this site, but that would be just wishfull thinking. it's just so funny how people here could jump on the bandwagon and not check the fact that they've posted some crazy stuff on another thread. example: the picture of prince in the underwear and socks. a few months ago they all said that was a sexy picture of him or am i wrong about this one. i don't know but i guess i better just sit back and just read and stop posting. i thought what we were discussing was more important than if mani is taller than prince or if all his girlfriends look like vanity. but i digress (sofia patrillo golden girls). ive got to let it go. (prince the come album)

peace.

I remember there was a time when you could have a well rounded discussion on certain sensitive subjects in here.

But since the political "brain fart" boners that Prince has released this past year.. alot of those orgers aren't around anymore.

It can be argued all day long that there is way too much censorship on the org these day.

But i'll sum it up with the most ironic point.

Theres RACISM

and then there is

PRINCE BRAND OF RACISM

If the man on stage is being sexualy lewd.. why can't people in the org be sexualy lewd?

If the man on stage is lighting a racist fire.. then what the f*&K ?

u know the old saying.. people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks or start threads that they can't handle.

Sorry but... too bad smile This site is moderated, and it is censored, and we believe our site is better for it. One glance at the content of the GD forum and the P&R shows that we're actually pretty flexible in this regard... however there are certain types of content that Ben and the rest of the Org staff definitely do not want to permit on this site - and if you look at the site rules, this includes hate-related stuff such as bigotry, racism etc.

There are many uncensored and unmoderated discussion forums on the internet, and it is not our intention for Prince.org become yet another one of them. Prince.org is slightly different, and you either like it or you don't. If you don't, I politely suggest going to AMP or some unmoderated forum.

The post was not to complain, yet to guide you in looking twice at what the name of the website is... Prince.org. The more racist he becomes (if he continues this path) you may want to think twice about continuing with this "unbalanced act" in the P&R forum, or like I suggested once, but you overzealously removed separate the two forums.

Ben manages the censorship of a couple hundred orgers.. and he does a good job.

We've been guiding the delicate management of internet free speech for 100 million+ for the past 7 years at AOL-TW for the past 6-7 years..

keep up the good work wink

No idea what you are taking about. What on earth has Prince's politics got to do with how we run this site, or the Site Discussion forum? Oh, nothing? Great, thought so. Take care now.
