HOUSEQUAKE vs. PRINCE.ORG ? I've seen many times where folks bemoan the death of housequake; and, as a former member of housequake, I do kind of miss the site.
However, I'm not 100% sure the things said about housequake are actually accurate.
Can someone shed some light for me?
Folk say that it was the most vibrant prince community; yet, to my knowledge (And I think ben once eve affirmed this ) prince.org had far many more members on it than HQ.
Also, folks said that all the material on the site was legit; but, I recall performances and videos that I suspect were not authorized--now, I 'liked' the videos a lot, but I don't think they were allowed to post those, no?
I guess it's a matter of taste, but I don't think prince.org has ever had any true challengers as far as fansites go--I think it's always been the greatest prince fansite by numbers and community---beating even those official prince ones.
Plus, I remember once, I started a thread on housequake about eating ass, and they locked it within hours of my starting it.
I mean, seriously--you can't talk about something everybody enjoys doing? In the prince.org general discussion forum, such a thread would often be a sticky just like a golden girls thread. Eating ass and the golden girls--two things at the org we wouldn't even bat an eyelash at.
Anyways, Do we have official numbers surrounding memberships of these websites? It's my take the org is still numero uno, no?

Yeah, I found it a particularly unfriendy place in comparison to the org. At the org you could pretty much say whatever.
I've been to 2 org invasions and have met orgers several times outside of them. I could never imagine doing that with housquakers. It just seemed too 'drink-the-purple-koolaide" for me.

Housequake was great if you wanted to hear people piss an moan about who originally scanned a photo and put it online as if they took the picture themself.

seriously, though. housequake could be very informative. but it was very sterile and everyone had a stick up their ass over there.

Off topic, but imago - what is that avatar of yours?? It took me a while to figure out it looks like a nose. Is that a mummy's nose? For godssake, it creeps me out.
That's all.

I can count the number of posts I made at Housequake on one hand. It was only good for the pictures or the videos but the forums were horrible.
The Prince section seemed to be full of ass kissing fams that worship him like he's God. At the org, folks weren't afraid to tell it like it is, good or bad.
The Music: Non-Prince section at Housequake was horrible. The majority of the threads were on either current artists, or old pop/rock artists. The few R&B artists discussed were usually crossover ones. However, at the org, the Music: Non-Prince section was great. It was filled with tons of threads about folks like Bill Summers and Summers Heat, Ebonee Webb, Kwick, Bobby Nunn, Skyy, and artists that had previously been well known in the R&B world but had been forgotten in the recent era due to years of all the crossing over, shit hop, adult contemporary, and other things that killed off R&B and funk. The org had threads on artists that people would have had to be really heavy into R&B to have even heard of them. The Non-Prince section at the org nowadays is unrecognizeable from the way it was then. The Non-Prince section at the org nowadays has become much worse than that section at Housequake was, but during that time, the org was killing Housequake.
As for the General Discussion section, I never ventured into that section of either site back then. It has been only recent years that I ventured into the General Discussion section at the org because I became bored with the Music: Non-Prince section when most of the cool folks left and it became a thugged out version of The Mickey Mouse Club. But I can imagine the General Discussion section at Housequake being dull because they just seemed to have a lot of stuffy goodie two shoes members over there. Andy is a four letter word.

OMG, I remember when a Las Vegas News Paper had referenced several orger's comments on Prince's residence in vegas, and I was one of the orgers. My comment was, "Well, at least he's [prince] not doing state fairs yet.".
The housequakers said some insanely nasty things about me.
Apparently you could say vitriol laced comments, but you couldn't talk about eating ass.

If I remember correctly, I think it was rumored that it was because of you that Prince got on his extreme kick for a little while of not wanting his picture on any of the websites. We can't post Prince videos at the org but for a little while, we couldn't even post pictures of him either.
It was rumored that either Prince or one of his people had lurked the org and saw a thread in the General Discussion section that you had started. The thread was like playing charades online. You asked people to think of a song title and then post pictures for each word in the title and see if other orgers could guess the song. One of your posts was for "Pussy Control". The first picture you posted was of Prince and the second picture you posted was of the Janet Jackson "Control" album cover. Andy is a four letter word.

Oh my f'n' god, REALLY? I know his nose looks weird, but this photo shows a nose with what looks like layers of skin in various states of decomposition. And how did he get a close-up shot like that?
On topic, there seems to be a consensus here that HQ was more "stuffy," but WHY do you think that was so? Was there something about the architecture/design of the site that encouraged a certain type of member or dialogue? Learning from that, perhaps there are ways to encourage a certain type of atmosphere here on the org too.

This has got to be the most entertaining forum on the org this month!

prince.org is hardly a shining beacon of light these days though... particularly the GD forum... i can't believe the boring lifeless yawn fest it's become... particularly when you compare it to what it used to be

Bottom line: You couldn't talk about ass eating on housequake.

I'm pretty sure Prince.org has more members than Housequake.com does right now.
