Org App Who's gonna step up and make the org app for iPhone/Droid?
Looking at this site on my phone is a major drag! I'm not about to do anything about it, beyond this post in the least trafficked place on the entire internet, but surely one of you... My Legacy

Are you just looking to have the org on your home screen? or do you want more from it? Rhythm floods my heart♥The melody it feeds my soul

I want it to have a more phone friendly layout, like facebook does for its app. With the org, I am constantly zooming in and out.
Hitting each link is difficult, and going from page 1 to page 2 on a thread is nearly impossible. For some reason the page numbers don't zoom as quickly as the rest of the text on a page. My Legacy

Mmm, are you sure it's not a problem with your phone? I use the org a lot on my android phone and it works fine. Hitting links, flipping pages and zooming is all quick and smooth with me.

It's not that hard, I'm making it out to be more than it is.
But this site is not laid out for a screen the size of a phone. Sure, I can zoom by clilcking the appropriate section, and the phone figures it out pretty well. But I don't want to do that extra work. My Legacy

I understand. Problem is, we can't even seem to get Ben to fix some of the site bugs which still plague some users, never mind develop an app.

Yeah, I'm looking at a web site that has not changed for as long as I can remember, I don't expect anything big soon
I was hoping some industrious young upstart would take it upon themselves to perform this public service, perhaps? My Legacy

Ahh yes, maybe someone will step up to the mic.

Doesn't need its own app. Just a mobile version of the site. Or the ability to work with existing forum apps like Tapatalk or whatever it is.

mobile version would be awesome so I don't hit report post instead of reply or keep subscribing to threads
I bought an iPad thinking it would be easier, but I still need to zoom in I'm the mistake you wanna make

OK I see what you mean. This is basically what I'm saying. Doesn't need to be an app per se, just as long as it does not look like the fine print on the back of a credit card application My Legacy

yes I've reported and subscribed to threads that deserved neither! My Legacy

There could be an app which simply scrolled the new thread titles and linked through to them

Who's gonna understand and explain the app thing to me? HTML was designed to be rendered on many different devices. Why wouldn't that work anymore? What can't you do in a browser nowadays that does require an app?
Well? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

read a website properly?
here's an example of the difference between a mobile site and a regular website, doesn't need to be an app - but simplified for a small screen would be GREAT
NSFW Here is the mobile site:
and here is the regular website:
see how there is less stuff there to scroll through or zoom around? (and don't click on those links unless you are 18+ udo!! )
It's a matter of optimal text reading size and the difference between a computer monitor which is wide and a mobile device (which, yes CAN be turned on it's side of course )
Here is an example - you may have to zoom in or out so you see this image at approx 6cm wide.

Can you read it? Imagine how much zooming and scrolling is involved to read and post on the org

Well.. Your device might be unfit for web browsing. Or the org should adapt the layout a bit, via css or whatever, for mobile users. Nothing impossible at least. Or is it? It requires some time and a person with the rigth skills. Is there a volunteer on the org for this? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

It's a phone with internet capability but my eyes are poor and the screen is small and to support my org addiction I would be eternally grateful if someone knew how to do this I'm the mistake you wanna make
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes, but 'internet capability' does NOT equal web browsing in my opinion. The org would need a screen layout change for mobile users, or at least a few extra screens catered to them.
I'm not a web developer but perhaps people with those skills are reading this? Then we could make a design and if that's OK'd someone could implement stuff. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Orging on my old Blackberry was a NIGHTMARE.
The iPod touch was actually better but not by much.
So bad in fact, that I've had my new phone for about a year (I think) and I've yet to use it for the Org. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!
