What Caused You To Seek Out Prince.org?

I never saw this subject on the Org. Of course, I'm a relatively new member, but not new to Prince. What caused me to seek out the Org was when I heard a Prince song in 2009 on a local radio station (believe it or not!) called "Better With Time." And I really liked it, unlike a lot of people on this site. And, after not listening to or knowing about Prince since 1995, I really wanted to know what had been going on with him (or not! LOL). Plus, even though I had been a fan in the early 80s, I never got to see him live. So, I wanted to find out about where and when I could... That's where Prince.org came in handy! What's your story?

I've been a fan for as long as I can remember so I thought about joining a site where I could share my thoughts, memories and passions with like minded people.

Then the reality hit in, all internet forums are brim full of cranky, bitter and jealous people who thrive on bitchy comments and trying to get one over other posters. The org is no different, actually it's probably worse than most others.

There is no other Prince message board worth looking so eventually I found this one.

I thought we'd be chatting about those hunks William and Harry. But I found the conversation stimulating enough, so I decided to stay.

Prince .org came up in the results so I thought I would check it out. I even missed the Lotusflow3r site & by what I've read I certainly didn't miss much there!!!!

It was during the "Musicology" tour in 2004 and I was searching the internet for a schedule of the tour to see if Prince was coming anywhere near my area. During my internet search, the org came up in one of the search results.

I was on AMP, and then I found this back when it looked different (was it 2000?)

Joined mainly to here cool stories about Prince and new bootlegs. Then I started thinking the humor on here was really entertaining. And the links to funny stuff, news, and porn.

I can't believe that this site is now moderated to be family friendly when most people here worship non family friendly Prince shit. Talk about fucked up.

There are some crazy people on here, there are even celebs, and it was embarrassing when someone who actually works closely with Prince would post on here, and people wouldn't even realize that and post some stupid shit. I think that happened with Femi Jiya.

Not so much this site in particular, but after the SuperBowl (which kinda reminded me that a couple years ago, I saw Prince for the first time by accident-- "Purple Rain" was on cable-- and he blew me away... never saw anyone like him before, a true artist in the music business)

I started googling... came across a site that had a bunch of his videos posted so for the first time, I heard songs like Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, Kiss and Let's go Crazy... to name a few.

I had a hankering thirst for purple knowledge from the only place I knew I'd get it: from the people who have been listening to him longer than I have.

I certainly wasn't going to be able to ask around my family or friends because they either knew next to nothing or they didn't see him the way I did... they regarded him as a weirdo more than someone to be taken as seriously as I was

so I guess I googled Prince messageboards and this was the first one I came to...

I'd say the rest is history, but man, this place has done so much for me.

I not only got the knowlege I was seeking... the albums that I should check into to really get a feel for Prince's skills and just knowing more about him... but I got more music than I imagined I would, found another voice in writing (a few months in2 my time here, I started a Prince blog. Still write about him every now and then, but I broach a wider range of subjects these days)... gained more of a respect for artists that write their own material and found a couple friends, some of them for LIFE.

had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I was excited about going to a Prince concert (2004, musicology) and wanted to talk about him and the upcoming concert. I googled and found Prince.org

I was looking for Prince photoes and came across the org. I kind of just sat back and watched the org without joining for a few years before I decided to go ahead and commit.

steve hammer shut down his chatroom in late 1996 during one of his many tantrums about how underappreciated he was, and the togdog.com/ppml had just recently opened one.

it stuck. then it became the org. then it got forums. etc.

Later that year Prince toured and I was all over this place ever since.

I had always known about org since it's black-and-purple days; however, I started checking the org weekly once L41A.com/npgmc.com was up and in full swing--I was so turned off by their rhetoric, their "send us your bootleg experiments", their branding unsatisfied customers as 'haters', etc. that I started to come to org to get all of my news, because people were speaking their minds here.

I started to actively post only once bannanacolonge, ex-Mod, created one of the many Prince-photoshop competition threads---I created an account, and started posting at that time (04-ish ?).

I remember those. How come we stopped doing them? Is it because we are restricted what pictures can be posted on the Org?

Was searching through dozens of fansites of various artists out of boredom and was impressed with the diversity in the music:non prince forum.

I saw him on Lopez Tonight and thought, wow, he's still around and still got it! So I got interested in him again (first became real fan at Symbol Album but dropped out around '98 when I started law school and then marriage, kids). I'm looking around going, oh my god Prince is still such an awesome performer! Love me some Prince! ... and realized absolutely NO ONE liked Prince and even looking at me funny for liking him. So I started looking around the internet and prince.org came up.

As previous poster mentioned, also was impressed by the diversity in Music Non-Prince and the humor in GD. Could do without some of the harshness and negativity, but that's everywhere on the internet to some degree.

Someone hipped me onto the Politics & Religion forum, and I almost posted exclusively there until I got burned out from it lol , then I started peeping out the other forums. GD was the biggest (and most fun) surprise of all, and I pretty much spend most of my time there now or Music Non-Prince. Although I've listened to Prince's music since 1978, I don't actually enjoy the forums having to do much to with him, as I find a great many of his supporters near rabid and cult-like in their fanaticism for the man. It's like walking into a room full of Moonies and having to swat them like gnats just to be able to relax, breathe, and enjoy the atmosphere, and that I can really do without. martini

Prehaps its an intrinsic need for all humans to pick an idol, hero,Rock Star to adulate and worship. Thats why Prince is who he is .If it wasnt for hero worshippers and fans he would just be a porridge person......an everyday norm......

Joining Prince.Org gives me an excuse to not do what Im supposed to be doing...Studying and writing assignments!mmmmm

Everytime I googled "Prince" this site was always a top recommendation.

So one day I clicked on it and became intrigued.

Then after a while I joined, but basically just lurked.

Once I even entered the chatroom and my head nearly exploded! lol

Now it's my drug of choice.

I've wanted to check out the chat rooms. (I really miss chat rooms... not feeling this facebook and twitter mess). Is the chat room on the org still pretty active? What time of day is it most active? I've gone several times into the room and it was pretty dead.
