Ill admit the MJ fans sometimes do change the direction of those threads and make it about MJ but the Prince fans do as well and people end up fighting thats why they end up getting locked.

But techincally those are artists while related to MJ they are their own artist.

Most people hate the sticky, but the mods don't have the time to deal with locking/banning the flood of MJ threads and trolls, that would likely increase if we got rid of the sticky.

I will say that I have never been a member of any other forum... ever.. I am only a member of this forum because I think it's (usually) well moderated, and a great community of people (for the most part). So, I do like coming here to talk about things other than Prince... but I think we're all in agreement that there is no need for a flood of MJ topics.

The problem is, only about a half dozen people post in the sticky, so we can't have decent conversations there.

There's plenty of MJ fans on the org who don't go overboard. But when you come up in here and see there are 3194781343 threads on every fucking Jackson and whatever they said, its absurd.

They aren't relevant enough to have half a dozen threads dedicated to them all on the front page. And if an artist is relevant and they get a flood of posts, the Mods take care of it. Case in point: Gaga/Janet/Britney/etc. I specifically remember when BTW came out, people made a Gaga thread for every fucking thing she said. It was insanity. I am a Gaga fan but by no means do I come to the org to talk about her gossip.

And that's what those posts on the Jacksons are - gossip posts. No one gives a fuck. Honestly. A very, very small portion actually cares about the gossip. Yet every single thing, every thing, is made into its own thread when it comes to the Jacksons. Not my fault they had 9 kids, alright? Nobody's fault but their own. And if Jackson fans flood the forum with Jackson "news" on a Prince site, you best bet it will get curbed quickly.

Some of you who visit this forum regularly may notice that some artists get a WHOLE lot of love thrown their way in the form of multiple threads posted on a regular basis.

Now sometimes, this is completely understandable - like, say, when a big name artist releases a new album or announces a huge tour. Okay, that's exciting, we get that.

But some very zealous fans seem to enjoy posting tons of threads on their favorite non-Prince artists, even when those artists aren't really up to much.

Folks, we need to calm this kind of action WAY down.

SO, we're starting a new rule here in Music: Non-Prince:

When we mods check out this forum and see more than 5 threads about any given artist posted to the first page (or within the past 24 hours), we will lock those threads and create a sticky thread dedicated to that artist where you can post about this person to your heart's content. BUT. This means you cannot post additional threads on this artist.

We want to make this a forum where people can find discussions based on a broad range of tastes, styles and backgrounds. When it's flooded with dozens of threads about the same few artists, that discourages the diversity this forum intends to promote and celebrate.

So, in short,

CREATE NEW THREADS WITH CARE AND DISCRETION.

LOOK TO SEE IF A THREAD HAS ALREADY BEEN CREATED ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE ARTIST BEFORE YOU CREATE ONE OF YOUR OWN.

UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE NO "IFS OR BUTS" WHEN MULTIPLE THREADS GET LOCKED. THEM'S THE BREAKS. PERIOD.

We cool on that? Good. Problems with that? Shoot me an orgnote or post on the thread on this topic over in the Site Discussion Forum ( http://prince.org/msg/3/299567 ).

I like the people on this site. I don't like the people on any Michael Jackson sites I've been to. Michael Jackson discussion is permitted on Prince.org, so I don't find it odd for me to talk about him here.

I am not one of those who only posts in MJ threads, but I do sometimes like to talk about his music. But those who do only come to this site to talk about MJ are not trolls. Why they come here to talk about him... I'm not sure.
