Why is this website destroying my PC??? Hi mods,
Seriously: the Org is the ONLY site which regularly makes Google Chrome and/or my whole PC crash! I mean I can surf on heavy Flash sites, any other forum, sites with videos, u name it: it's sometimes long because I have a slow connection, but it never makes either Chrome or my PC crash!!! And that's odd because the Org is supposedly a "light" website. Note that it didn't happen before, I even wonder if it happened before I got Chrome 2 years ago: could it be a problem with Chrome itself? Am I the only one having trouble? Is there something fucked-up with this website's codes?
Thanks for ur help. Considering the amount of time I spend here, it's really a hassle!
(And don't blame my PC: it was even OK surfing on Lotus-"I-made-a-website-4-the-PC's-we'll-make-in-2050-and-I-wonder-why-people-who-paid-77-bucks-complain-that-it-won't-work"-flow3r.com! ) A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I use Windows Explorer 9 and the org is the only site that freezes from time to time, about once a week this happens. I have to restart my pc for it to continue working.
All other sites I use work with no problems at all. Strange.

Do the crashes happen when you read threads that have multiple instances of the Youtube player linked on them? (e.g. the Michael Jackson thread or "the what are you listening to now" -threads on the Music: Non-Prince subforum). It's a known problem that crashes occur especially on older computers when people post a lot of videos on the same thread. Can you recall the site / browser crashing on any other type of occasions?
Prince.org is a simple site and its most likely the content that it is linked that crashes your browser (notice that the music videos and the Youtube player itself are only linked to the site and the site owners can't change how they work). Youtube has added more crap to their Flash player again and the memory handling is just plain terrible. Believe it or not, a computer that is more than five years old is not a priority to people behind Youtube or Flash.
As far as I can tell, the reason why other forums do not crash like this one seems to be that prince.org still has the default posts per page set to 200. Most other forums that I visit myself have limited this to only 10-20 posts per page at a time, so the amount of linked content per page doesn't fill up your memory and won't crash the browser as easily.
Things to try,
1) Limit the posts shown per page on your settings ("my org"). 2) Update Flash. 3) Update the driver of your video card (or change the card itself). 4) Block Flash (by using an external program / plug-in).

One more that springs to mind,
5) Block cookies from Youtube. You can do this on a browser like Firefox. Youtube's tracking cookies commonly cause problems on Mac OS, Linux and other UNIX variants. I suppose it's possible that they cause problems also with some antivirus / spyware programs on Windows as well.

Great tip to reduce the amount of posts per page Trying to post on the recent Gif thread was a nightmare as it would take ages to load the whole thread

Some good tips above.
There are also a few things being worked on behind the scenes, but if you are the only one with these issues, I doubt they are the cause. If they are, the work should be done soon. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

True that my pc is 4 years old now, which hopefully will change soon. But I find that making a post to a thread takes forever and a day... forget previewing. I'd be on one post for a half hour
Right now I'm using a make-shift laptop connected to my consul monitor and keyboard. The laptop is only about a year old, but posting with this isn't any faster.
Just wondering if anyone else is having trouble with posting and replying? I keep my pages here to either 20 or 25 responses...I can't imagine anymore than that per page. What a mess that would be!

I wonder if this is what keeps making my computer freeze?

I have problems occasionally too where I'll have to click refresh a few times to get a page to load. Also, sometimes the SQL code errors get puked onto a page, altho not real recently since I haven't been around much the last week or two.

Yeah I think the multi video uploads help to make the site crash on a browser.

Time for prince.org 4.0

That's not the only thing that's making it crash; however pictures and videos take much longer, I have to agree.

Some pictures definitely make this site real slow.

I guess, but what fun would the org be without pics and videos?
I find some of the gifs hard to scroll passed too.
However, my computer has only frozen once in many, many weeks and that was like 2 days ago.

since upgrading to IE 9, do you have problems replying to posts? I have to hit enter a few times to get a few lead lines in there, otherwise I can't post a reply. It says something about message inconsistency, or something.
also seem to not be able to insert pics with the button at the top of the response box.

I don't think this site destroys your PC. This is a good website and really informational. If you are interested, make your own website. You can have for asearch engine optimization. I can recommend you the Spokane Search Engine Optimization. The search engine optimization process includes researching keywords, creating content, building links and making sure your website is visible in the search engines. All that is new is the fact you now have to add more science to your strategy to optimize your vocabulary for machines called search engines.
