Where are the Mods in the Concert Forum?

Just asking. Because of late, the place has gone crazy.

Trolling, flaming, deliberate thread duping and bumping, derailment, and thats just one member.

Who I won't even bother naming, we all know who that is.

I know it's gotten a lot quieter around here lately, but honestly it's getting pretty difficult to even have a normal thread with a point. We have tried and tried to create a thread for the Dublin gig, that provides info for orgers about the area, pubs etc and getting a list together to perhaps organise a meet up or something. Which we did the last time he didn't turn up.

But it's just impossible. Constant deliberate trolling is ruining the entire thing.

And Mods, if you are still out there, please don't just lock entire threads without seeing whats actually going on.

I hope I don't annoy anyone by posting this. It's heartfelt, as I am actually questioning if there is any reason to post in here anymore. I know another orger posted something similar yesterday. And I can't say that I dis-agree with her.

Thanks.

Rory

This will probably end up being moved to Site Discussion - whenever a mod turns up...

I think it's due to a chronic lack of moderators on the site these days. The Concerts forum is a good example - only Anxiety and CarrieMpls are listed as mods. Well, Anx hasn't been a mod since a couple of years ago and Carrie hasn't been around much lately due to personal issues.

I'm no insider but from what I understand from reading threads here, Mach has stepped down as a mod, June7 isn't too active these days and Ben is more about the big picture than getting bogged down in forum minutiae. By my count, that leaves 2 active mods, who I presume have lives outside this place.

I'm sure it's a thankless job but we seem to need more mods. Otherwise, good threads go to crap with trolling, etc.

Well there must be someone active on there because my original Dublin thread was removed after it was hi-jacked by an attention seeking 3 year old child. wink

Yep - too much blue crayon. And I think that's an example of overstretched mods - not having the time to read through entire multi-page threads to ascertain who is to blame. It's much quicker to just lock a thread down if you have to take some action but don't have all day to catch up on multiple threads.

nod nod

That is exactly right. The main knock on effect of the lack of Mods, or over stretched Mods is the fact that they don't seem to locate the problem. Rather easier to lock the whole thing. I do understand why they do this. But its a law of diminishing returns, genuine orgers will just give up. Slow-motion suicide for a forum like this.

There must be a way to tidy this up. I can't make Hop Farm and tbh if I could I might not go as I've never really enjoyed prince at big out door events (Wembley stadium last time I saw him out doors, how long ago was that?).

But my point is I'm watching my other options and the page is a mess at the mo' for all the reasons rehearsed above.

Thanks for the suggestion, but no thanks.

One extreme to the other. Each to their own.

To answer Remko, I don't know how many Mods are on here. CarrieMPLS is the only one who is listed. I know Anx left a couple of years back. It is probably just too much to handle for one person.

But it really is out of hand at the moment.

sad

I can imagine it being to much for one person (even to look after the concert forum alone).

Problem is oc course what do you lock, what don't you lock and if you have to look through all these threads you sure ain't gonna be happy.

But even if we don't feed the troll it's hard to keep threads readable. (esp. the ones about the Irish gigs). Normally it is nice to look around, also to the threads of gigs you don't visit yourself, jsut to read about the excitement and seeing people helping each other out. Nowadays......sigh

All valid points, dupe threads need trashing big style. We know these's a lack of mods but surely it is also up to the original poster of a thread to keep it somewhat up to date.

Just by simply adding "Confirmed""Canceled" "Updated" and such like will allow users to sort out the wheat from the chaff. twocents

And this is indeed the case. Sorry, folks. Life happens.

Ben has been notified that we need more moderators in the concert forum. I have also notified him that I'll be stepping down as soon as we've got some in place. I simply have other priorities right now.

As such, if folks can’t behave you can expect threads to be hidden, bans to be issued and that’s really that.

I don't think it is, once the forum in question is looked at, shit stirring and dupe threads deleted, a handful of idiots banned, and everything generally brought under control, then one person could easily moderate the concerts forum.

So long as that moderator could make a commitment to be online at least once every 48hrs (preferably 24hrs) then things could be kept under control.

I understand that real life can/could get in the way of such a commitment, but surely it can't be that hard to find someone to fill the role as required.

One of the problems is the fact that the concerts forum can be quiet for a long period of time. Then, when a series of concerts is announced the place explodes with gig- dates, rumours, questions well, all the things the forum is made for in the first place wink at those moment it is hard to control. Esp. If a mod is in the US and the concers are being overseas, let's say in Europe (maybe even in Ireland). At those times, 1 mosd every 48 or even 24 hours might be not enough.

The org should give maybe temporary mod status at times like these to those prince.org hierarchy who maybe do not want it 24/7...but are screaming on the inside as to the utter mess this tour is being interpreted on this site ...

For me, it has already gone beyond that point.

I'm keeping my account for a while, in the hopes that the problem will be permanently dealt with.

If it isn't, or it is only dealt with temporarily, then I'm not staying.

I simply don't want to be on a site where such vile creatures are deemed to be acceptable - and anything less than a permanent ban is deeming it to be acceptable, and it also makes a mockery of the site rules.

What I want is never to have to encounter that creature again. If leaving the site is the only way to achieve that then so be it. I'm not the only person who feels that way.

Aside from which, taking advantage of the lack of moderators in order to constantly spout racist, homophobic and xenophobic bullshit, deliberately ruining threads to the point where others can't stomach their shit anymore, getting banned for it, and then being so mind-numbingly fucking stupid as to come back and do the exact same thing again, does not to me constitute 'winning'.

Ultimately prince.org loses, because it becomes known as a place that tolerates unacceptable behaviour.

Besides I haven't left yet. I still believe that the only reason the moron is still here is down to the lack of moderators. I have every confidence that one of these days a moderator will wander along, see the shit that's been happening and deal with it. I just hope they do so before it starts spouting its pointless hate-filled drivel again.
