English usage on Prince.org I look at a handful of fan sites, and Prince.org has by far the most poorly written posts on it. My questions are: does Prince's imaginative spelling in his song titles and lyrics confuse his fans? Or do his fans just not care about writing properly, in a way that makes their posts easily understandable? I've just not seen such poor grammar or spelling on one site anywhere else and I wonder why. Don't mean to be rude, but come on, let's at least attempt to communicate efficiently even if we don't always agree!

what, you've never seen anything ?love writes over at okayplayer.com?
nevermind the fact that there are a lot of posters on here for whom English is not their first language.
and I belive your last sentence should have started "I don't mean to be rude...."
beginning it with "Don't mean to be rude" is technically meant to be taken it as a command to the reader, not your own intention.

I've corrected your post for grammar and clarity:

the only thing about the way people write on here that bothers me is the whole 'eye' thing Bogey and Bacall, peanut butter and jelly, Wall being on fucking point, is "classic" dipshit. An iphone is top shelf technology. Get it straight. This thing is 4g. -Wall the great

it's an annoying afffect. even with Princebonics taking over the world because of text messaging to shorten the number of keys required to type a message, typing out "eye" takes more effort than typing "i". and took an effort to re-train the brain to remember to type it "eye" instead of "i".
and if you're doing it to suck on prince's balls, you might as well put in the extra effort and type out
it's the same amount of characters after all.

A better title for your thread would have been, "The use of English on Prince.org."

Try to avoid any threads or posts from Imago. That might help.

But the saddest and most bleedingly true FACT is that normally the poorest English comes from English-speaking natives, especially Americans.
And for worse, they hate to be told so. They don't care about their spelling, thy don't think that's important.
Handling one's native language correctly is the least a human being could do.
It's so shameful to see so many non-English native people write MUCH better than them.

If a post is full of ebonics and other "cute" misspellings, I don't bother reading.

^Well done.
In 95% of cases you won't be missing anything. People who use those normally don't have anything interesting to say.
Same for those who think typing in caps or (coloured) bold letters will make their post more noticed and appreciated.
And when you really have NOTHING to say, you just ornate your lame sentence with a rosary of smileys and add 'I love my Princey'.

Obviously neither do you.. ~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~

^Well, being a foreigner, I know very well my English is far from perfect.
But, honestly, you're the first ever native -if you are one- that has something bad to say about it.
And I don't need anybody's judgement to know perfectly that my English is much better than that of many Americans and a few Britons.
But I can't be bothered paying any attention at what you say. Sorry.
