Incognito?

Why is everyone incognito on this site? Hardly anyone fills out there information correctly, nor do they post a picture of themselves. I can see keeping a little privacy, like not posting your address and phone number, but what else is there to be afraid of? At least post a picture so we can place a face to a nickname.

I think a lot of people who used to post pictures got abuse over them. People can be cruel - especially over the net as you can't see the immediate repercussions of your words or actions. I guess people don't want to open themselves up to that. I think the ladies are particularly aware about what kind of attention they may attract.

I personally, think the mystery is nice. There are only two people on here that know my real name and one is an old friend of mine, the other has become a friend since I started posting here.

Yeah... in an ideal world we'd be able to post such personal details and it would make things feel less anonymous etc. However although the Org is for the most part a friendly place and it seems like a little intimate club, there are thousands of people on this site and you never know... not all of them are nice people.

I post under my own name... there's no point in hiding behind fake usernames since my name is already splashed across internet whois records etc for registering domain names. No big deal, I'm happy enough. But putting photos online is a bad idea I think. People might use your pic in a way you dislike, or they might put it on a site you don't like, or it might otherwise compromise your safety and privacy, particularly for women (hey, I'm a bit old fashioned maybe but it's true).

Also, the minute you get into a disagreement with someone with a nasty temper, you'll get some unkind comments about your pic. That's why I took mine down. It just makes you vulnerable putting such info online and I advise against it.

I don't post my details because there's more than enough out there about me.
