What I've learned thus far posting threads on Prince.org

  1. I've had an account here since '08, but I never really logged on much until a couple of weeks ago. I've always had my own thoughts about certain things & decided what better place to put those thoughts I've had or those questions I would like to ask than on this website. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here who know more than I do on pretty much any subject I have to ask. I usually don't do much talking on forums to begin with, therefore I'm pretty sure I'm preaching to the choir with my observations. So, here's what I've learned: 1. You can't even mention Michael Jackson [or MJ] in a thread title without it being locked, even if it's real question, & not just some fan gawking. I understand there's a sticky, so we'll see if I can get some legit talk through that "Sticky" [instead of a bunch of defense from people] My mistakes. 2. A lot of people don't even read through all of the comments before they give they're two cents. So, they respond negatively for no reason instead of just disagreeing or not commenting at all. 3. Pretty much all of us are in denial about our favorite artist. Most of us act like we know these artist personally, when we have no clue who any of these people are in their real lives. We only know what we're told by others or press. I can only defend an artist so much before I realize it's no use because I don't know them personally at all. 4. I had no clue there were SO many immature adults [but when looking the state of the world....] on this forum. 5. Sarcasm isn't for everybody. 6. People twist topics into a totally different topics at will. Going against the original topic pretty much every time. So, that's about it [so far] on my little adventure through forum talk. Please feel to agree or disagree with me on anything I mention. Even add your own observations. I'm always looking for different opinions on stuff & in some ways, I looked at things much differently after reading some comments.... smile

I didn't per-say "deactivated", I just made an account and never came back. No real reason why I just started coming back. I guess it's funner talking to real fans instead of just anybody...

And in other news, gas prices are high. All kidding aside, you present intelligence above a high school level and keen observation skills, it helps. This place is a micro, microcosm of society at large, being above the age eighteen does not an adult make. When a beacon of light pokes through the clouds here, you'll be rewarded accordingly .

Now, about the flipside, gimme my 6 "positive" observations you noticed about orgville batting eyes lol

1) The most extensive gathering place for music makers / lovers & "literati" that I ever saw in the online world.

2) Hillarious almost any day. (esp the GD board)

3) Great "folks" abound, in spite of the political / personal strife & momentary lapses of judgement. We are (at least) a fabulously "dysfuctional family".

4) A sometimes shockingly great place to interact with others of different political, social, economic, sexual, musical, geographic and age demographics. They are all here, every day.

5) More "hippage" to all things old & new musically & otherwise.

6) A place frequented (more often that we think) by the very artists we talk & debate about. They have been known to chime in on their own threads. Far cry from the "fan clubs" of yesteryear.

All that said, and to address some of the OP's concerns I humbly offer this advice:

Take The Org for what it IS..not for what it's NOT. Watch your manners, stay on the high road, NEVER feed the trolls, try to limit your input to things you know "something" about (ADD not detract from the thread titles), avoid the STANS, and try to refrain from outright rulebreaking & thread-jacking.

Most people who have a sacastic sense of humour most of the time are SMART ASSES. That usually aren't funny except maybe to themselves and people who are just like them.

So yes sarcasm isn't for people who don't like dealing with rude asses.

I don't have a problem with people being sarcastic, I just have a problem with people "trying" to be sarcastic with EVERY comment they make. I feel that there are better ways to get responses. How about having something decent to say instead of the lame "sarcasm" attempts ALL of the time....

On number 1, there's a reason why we have the MJ sticky but I wish there was a better solution because some Jackson related topics need their own thread.

On 2, when people start a post by saying "I haven't read the thread, but..." I always wonder why they think anyone should read their thoughts when they can't bother reading anyone else's?

On number 3, yeah...quite a few people can't tell the difference between having an opinion and being opinionated.

On 4, I think you answered yourself. lol

Concerning number 5, some people are "on" all the time...kind of like Jim Carrey

Number 6 is my pet peeve.

On the flip side, I agree with the list of positives that was posted.
