Merging forums This is just a thought, and I haven't ran it past the rest of the Prince.org staff yet but I thought I'd check how everyone feels about it...
How about merging the "Prince: Music & More" forum with the "Related Artists and People" and the "NPGMC Discusson" forums? It seems weird that people who want to discuss Mayte or Vanity have to go to a different forum, or that people discussing NPGMC use a different forum. I vote we merge all three into one. I had another suggestion - how about creating a new forum called "Comedy Goldmine" or something where we move all the funniest and best threads (once they have died down) to preserve for posterity? Thoughts and feedback welcome

I like the merge idea, but who would decide what gets put into the Comedy Goldmine? Would the org take a vote?

I would say until we know if there will be another NPGMC it couldn't hurt to merge it with the Prince forum. I thought the NPGMC forum was started due to NPGMC news not getting the notice it needed when it was included with all Prince news. Since it is dormant at this time it doesn't require its own forum.
Lets keep the Mayte & Carmen Electra & Vanity forum as it is. [This message was edited Tue Jan 28 18:45:16 PST 2003 by ZAZA2]

I like the way they are right now.
It really is nice to have the top in each subject at my fingertips, if they were all merged, then it would involve more sifting to get to the dirt. I am all for an archive of the most popular threads...not sure how the funniest would be selected, but for sure, there are some unforgettable threads that have gotten lost in the mix, that would be nice to refer back to on occasion.

I like the idea of merging those particular forums.
For one thing, it would reduce the likelihood of multiple threads being created and, especially in regard to the NPGMC forum, increase the chances that people see important information. (And also, mercifully, reduce the number of people who complain that the information has already been posted, forcing them to get jobs and contribute to the community at large.) It seems to me that the threads in the Prince Music & More forum tend to move faster down the page, both because more threads are created and because fewer people respond to those threads. (Although I haven't created an actuarial table to support my thesis...) I mention this, because when I first read your idea, Ian, I thought that maybe by combining these forums this would increase further the volume of threads in the newly created forum. But, actually, I don't think that would be the case. I think that there might be more interesting and relevant threads created that would draw people's attention, encouraging them to post there rather than create a thread that might otherwise just sink. Your other suggestion is interesting, although I think the Forum merger one deserves some deeper thought at the moment. Regarding your other suggestion, I for one would love to be able to at least read some of the threads from the Old GD!

Good idea. It seemed silly that people wanting to discuss Prince and the website had to go to different forums.

Yeah, I like both of those ideas. I think the moderators should pick the hall-o-fame-ers, though. Fuck democracy.
While you're at it, rename 'Politics and Religion' to 'Philosophy, Science, Politics, and Religion'. Or, 'Inalekshual Stuff'. Doves, Mel!ssa

So unless you switch your query to "beginning", you will come up empty. It is also a wonderful piece of history of that event, as documented by those who attended. I wouldn't die if they merged but I do like the forums being separate. P:M&M is so busy already, like LaV said it'll just involve more sifting through more junk...

In fact, I think the entire Org should just be one long neverending thread...

I agree. Prince Music & More is always very popular but the others are not. So if you have a question about a related artist or the npgmc, it probably wont get answered. This has happened to me many times

Rather than "Comedy Goldmine" an all around archive for quality threads of any subject sounds better.

I can see merging the PM&M with the associated artists but...leave the NPGMC one seperate...please.
How bout a Prince NEWS forum? or would that be too crazy? I just started a topic about how I miss the old days of the org when tons of news (no matter how small) was posted. The news was the whole reason I ever used to come to the org, now hardly any news is posted in the news section, but all of the other small news goes unnoticed in the PM&M forum.. I miss news oh..the comedy idea...I don't think so...cause it would only reflect what you thought was funny Ian...but that's ok I guess. "not a fan" yeah...ok

Nooo! If Aaron was here he would kick your ass! How about creating a forum for the "oldtime" Orgers, (you know, the "legends," the warhorses, who never get tired of praising themselves and making a point to announce when they leave and when they re-arrive (all in "jest" of course -- not seeking attention at alll, like those damn pesky newbies! !)), who take flamewars as intellectual stimulation, who wouldn't know humor if it hit them over the head, where they can berate people, tell the same old stale jokes and feel good about themselves -- and one for everybody else! YEAH! I like that! YEAH! [This message was edited Mon Feb 3 20:00:18 PST 2003 by 2the9s]
