New 'International' (i.e. non-North American) mods suggestion

Other thread was locked for whatever reason, but I'm sure we all agree this is a decent avenue of discussion (how can it not be? It regards how we can improve the site).

So... the org being as diverse and international as it is should have some international flavour to its moderation, no? We can see who agrees or disagrees and then maybe put it to Ben if someone hasn't already done so. I would imagine it's something surely already in the pipeline, though of course I know that changes or additions to the moderation team can't necessarily happen overnight. It would be interesting and helpful to find out if it is something being discussed though.

Here I think we should say whether we're in favour or not of this idea and offer any other on-topic suggestions relating specifically to this issue. smile

I think it would be a great help. I’m in favor. smile

Not only for additional perspectives, but for round-the-clock “care” as well.

I don’t know whether additional moderators are being considered at this time, but it’s definitely a worthy suggestion.

As I have already expressed earlier.

This would be a good idea.

I thought about that too, initially because I wondered if time zones might cause a problem somehow as far as mods working together, before realising the time zone difference would be a plus for the 'care' reason you gave.

Agreed. nod

In the meantime I think the current crop should work a shift system, say, 0600-1400, 1400-2200 and 2200-0600. Four days on and four days off.

Obviously time-and-a-half for the nightshift.

For the record, I have always been in favor of international moderators. We have discussed this at great lengths between us at our moderator staff site, but that's as far as it's gone. But, something tells me regardless of what ocean surrounds your land, when you disagree with an orger and take action, it's gonna be the same ol' same ol' complaint regarding a lack of understanding.

You can't please everyone, regardless of the country you live in.

Still, I'm open for it.

Suggestions?

lol

A Thai mod wouldn't allow any disagreement whatsoever. Gross generalization, I know, but if things got in the slightest bit heated for just 10-20 mins they'd say 'hey why you serious? kin khao yang?' lol

I'm for it. All the current Mods are in North America, with all but one in the U.S.

We need some diversity in here.

oh fuck that shit.

I should be a moderator. I keep facebook from drifting off into obsurity. Imagine what I could do for the org.

And why aren't there any conservative moderators? You're all liberal hippies!

Just get rid of Matt and replace him. He hasn't been worth anything on here for years.

mods in different time zones would be great, that way when the proverbial shit hits the fan, it can be settled on the spot...not 2 pgs and numerous baits later

Those who are truly interested in becoming a moderator, from whatever time-zone you're in, please submit an "application" to any of the moderators on this site. We will discuss your application amongst ourselves and Ben, and make a decision.

We will let you know either way, yay or nay.

Needs something on the homepage really if this is something you guys (or Ben, at least) are genuinely considering and not just playing at, especially since all the feedback about it seems to be positive. Now it just remains to be seen if there are any 'international' folks who actually want to be mods. lol It's quite possible there aren't.

I remember a few that were really interested the last time that there was a push for new mods. That was some time ago though and I have a feeling most of them have left the org.

I remember discussing this with Ben way back when I was the only Mod outside of America.

Yes it's needed, but word to the wise from someone who's been there - it's a LOT of work, it's not always easy by any means, and will take up much more time than you may think.

It is still not back and now a new thread about the same topic is started (http://prince.org/msg/105/340536). I would suggest to remove the posts that are against the rules. And if a whole thread (of approx. 10 pages like this one) is out of line close it so we can at least link to it in a new thread about the same subject.
