We (most of us) are grown. Prince is grown. I don't see a problem with saying when his music stinks. shrug

Words of wisdom. Honestly. There's a line of being grown and secure enough to say "You know, I love Prince, but this album is really bad." (And frankly Prince should be grown and secure enough to accept that in his fanbase, as any artist would/does.) It's not about being a "hater". The whole "hater" or "you're just jealous" argument is so fucking LAME! No one wants to be an asskisser, not even to Prince. Prince might have built his business model, and resulting debts, on having a lot of Yes Men around him, but his fans are not supposed to be those people.

Any artist's fanbase is the true critic. They are the true voice of an artist's success. Sure the Top 40 public is going to rocket up record sales when something is hugely popular, but it's the fan base that sticks around after the artist has their Purple Rain; after they have their Thriller, or Like A Prayer. It's the fan base that stick around through the Graffiti Bridge times. It's the fan base that sticks around during the American Life times; and sticks around during the Invincible times.

In a country that holds onto the idea of Freedom of Religion and Speech, it's appalling that we're expected to just shut up and take whatever any artist throws out, without having any say in it. Money speaks, and when folks buy a record and don't feel they get their money's worth, it's annoying. It's not something you can return either. It's appalling that the OP has the idea that because of the adults voicing their opinions on here should result in them just leaving because they don't have Prince's best interest at heart (as if we have any influence in that anyway - we are not his parents, or even a sibling).

I'm here to keeping loving Prince's music, and keeping it real (for me, at least) in the quality of the music he puts out. It's Prince that has set a standard in his musicality and musicianship and songwriting, etc. When someone feels he's not living up to that, they have every right to speak that, and shouldn't have to expect that someone would move for their self-imposed dismissal from a stinkin' website on the internet! It makes me wonder how those people have any type of conversation in person; one on one. Do they coying say "Well I think SOMEONE should leave now because they don't agree with ME," and shooting stares at their alleged opposition in the flesh? These are people that probably never excelled on the debate team in school.

I ain't goin' anywhere.
