Why was the Haiti sticky taken down?

Couldn't we have left it there a little longer?

To be more clear - a thread gets made sticky in General Discussion because we want people to take note of it. Either because it’s a big topic in current events and we want folks to stick to the one thread and not make multiple (this falls in that category), or because it’s news/a thread we think deservers highlighting (which, this falls in that category also, but usually is more in line with orger wedding/baby/condolence kind of thing or games and fun like the football game thing and secret santa and such).

Now everyone knows about Haiti, so it’s no longer “breaking news” so to speak, and it’s been long enough that most folks who regularly post in the forum know there’s a thread on it. Discussion had been waning on the topic…

As I stated above, the thread is still open, so feel free to continue to post on it. If people are still chatting about it, it will keep it on the front page (much more organically).

Thank you Carrie. When I was looking to post a youtube vid I couldn't find the thread, so I wondered what happened. The disaster is still unfolding so I thought that maintaining the topic as a sticky would still be appropriate. I was under the impression that non org related news stickies more or less followed the news cycle. IIRC, it was taken down on the 26th, the last post being on the 25th.

Is there extra effort involved in having a sticky?

No extra effort, other than making it so.
