I know they get brutal but some shit needs to be worked out on their own..I can see after a day or so and nothing comes of it...

Sorry if it seems heavy handed sometimes RD, but it has to be done.

I'll explain how I operate, if that helps to give you some idea. If a thread has lots of posts on it (i.e. a large number of people have committed time and posted on it) I prefer to keep the thread open if possible. However it takes a lot of time to censor out problematic posts, particularly if they were quoted a lot etc.

So if a thread has far too many problematic posts, and it would require far too much work to fix it up and make it suitable for public consumption again, I'll generally just lock it. If there haven't been many replies yet (i.e. it is still a new thread) I'll just remove it to save people the bother of reading a locked thread with no content.

However sometimes if a thread has content that we just don't want on our site - and that includes racist content, homophobic, or other comments deemed offensive we may opt to just remove it altogether.

I wasn't involved in the case you are referring to (I think it was Matt) but he was entirely right to remove that thread, because in it 00769BAD posted some homophobic comments in an attempt to stir up some arguments. Certainly, ideally we'd have the time to "clean" up every problematic thread and make it open for business again (and as you may know, I often do that) but there simply isn't always the time to do that, with the limited amount of resources that we have.

Yes, I deleted the thread in question because some homophobic comments sparked a flame war. And LaVisHh, who started the thread, did request that I delete it. Those two factors led me to delete it entirely. As Ian indicated, when a thread gets too many problematic posts, sometimes it's just not practical to "clean up" the thread.

Sorry for any disappointment caused by the thread's disappearance.
