Limit of threads per day/week(edited title)

Mods if this topic has been brought up please feel free to lock it!(I used the google search up at top and didnt come up with anything.)

It has come evident that some may have obsessive compulsive thread making sydrome around the org lately. IMHO, there should be a limit per day or week on how many one should post. OR say in one topic like P:M&M limited to 3 per day/week. And so on and so on. OR if the topic in the past week or month has already been posted have the search put up a block saying " sorry the topic is already in discussion" This would also ease the stress on mods having to lock dupe threads.

Good idea or no?

Unfortunately there are more important things to do around here, like fix Twitter access and an iPhone app. And besides, the mods have all the time in the world to go through nonsense.

:majorirony:

Of course you're right, it's been brought up before but it doesn't seem to be important for some reason.

I don't see the need for this.

The org runs on threads and posts. Anyone who starts a thread/s fuels the org engine. And posting keeps it oiled. nod

Limiting will just be like pulling on the handbrake or maybe towing a caravan. confused

Limiting also creates more alters. eek

The path of least resistance here would be to ignore any specific orgers you dislike, no matter how big a royal pain you think they are. It's a big community and that means characters you dislike will be passengers too.

I think that thread starting is the problem, not posting. If people were limited to 3 posts per day, people would really be limited in what they could do. I don't really post that much, but I surely post more that 3x per day.

Sorry to post again on this so soon, but I had another thought (if we had a 3 post per day limit, I would almost be done).

What is unfortunate is that we are having to limit the ability of orgers to do their thing because there are one or two particular people that are gumming up the works. I personally love the org and it is the website in which I visit the most, hands down. I do not want to limit my ability to post and discuss on various issues, but I am willing to limit my ability to start threads if it will keep others from starting so many pointless or plagiarized threads every day.

Perhaps this could be a poll question: Should orgers be limited to starting 3 (or 4) threads per day?
If a strong majority agrees, perhaps it should be considered.

I think registered users should be able to reply to any and everything that they like. However, I think they should be limited to how many threads they initiate. It is a bit annoying to see certain users posts covering the front page. It makes it that much harder to apply the "if you don't like it don't click on it" theory when you have to skip to page 4 to avoid posts you don't want to see.

I understand your point. However every sing time that someone posts at all on a thread it brings it back to page 1. Therefor even comments such as "this thread bites" keeps the thread alive. Given that some of these threads are posted by orgers who take absolutely no time putting their thread together, ignoring their thread should be fairly easy. They would never take the time to comment back on their own thread and fix it up a little; no comments from other orger would make their thread sink like a lead balloon.

I don't think anybody's talking about a stupid limit like 20 posts a day or something and I agree that the major problem is thread starting. I can't see a need for mor than max 3 a day and that's stretching it. If there's something really important and of interest to the majority of the Org you could ask for an exception from a mod, stating why you feel the need to start another one.
However, a limit of say, 50 posts a day I can't see a problem with. The bullshit in threads between two (or three or whatever) people is fucking stupid, I don't know of anybody who doesn't use some kind of IM and these people can fucking go on there and talk their crap. I won't say I haven't done it loads at times but it's useless to be honest and I won't do it again - the Org doesn't benefit from it and it's a big part of why new(ish) members feel less than welcome - their posts that might very well be adding to the actual topic get run over (read: ignored) mostly because a number of members have to say biggrin and "asshole" respectively to each other 7 times each and then the relevant post is way down and nobody sees it. Also, topics would stay on that topic way more if people were "forced" to utilise IM:s to a higher degree.
I'm not saying I believe that I'm contributing to "a better Org" or whatever by not engaging in the back and forth non-topic bullshit, just that it got OLD for me. It took 11 years but it DID get old. lol I can't understand the people that are in the forums all day every day and post mainly bullshit to their close friends. A great deal of them have good or at least interesting views on actual issues but it's lessened in value because of all the crap. With a limited number of posts (and a severe punishment for alter accounts) the quality of discussions on this site would soar.

seriously there needs 2 b a limit on how many posts a orger can do a day cause just in one thread alone, someone can post 20 or more posts in it rolleyes

and can we limit the personal shout outs 2 another orger in a thread? it's sad when u look in2 ur "my org" and c possible updates 2 threads u posted in only 2 return 2 the thread and just c this : wave (insert orgers name here)

LOL true, but ther are times when people can get a wee bit...enthusiastic.

I wonder if it could work if the moderators could somehow enact a limit in only those cases, without everyone else being "punished". Like there could be a box in their profile that a only a mod can see, that can be "tic-ed" which would limit the person to X new threads a day. They could continue to do this until the person gets the hint and chills the hell out with the posting.

this is a great idea but the "poster" should have the countdown as well. the only deterent in this is, it would just cause someone 2 go 2 their alter account and start posting again pout

Well, there could be a "counter" on their profile (or maybe by their avatar). And while they could just use alter accounts, those accounts could be limited too. It would at least slow them down a little.

Seriously though, how many valuable or at least semi-valuable things can ANYBODY post in one day? Also, setting a limit on only some members would do absolutely nothing to stop the ongoing bitching about uneven moderation.
A severe crackdown on alters, on EVERYBODY'S alters, as well as a thread/post limit would go a long way to putting things right on this site.
