What incentive is there now to actually contribute instead of just posting lame questions and/or questions that have been asked and answered? NONE.

Today I saw mods lock a topic where one guy was once again posting rubbish on how Prince was gonna release a jazz album. The EXACT SAME CRAP he'd posted months earlier. Yet that user is still active!

Want to avoid people having multiple log-ins? Look at IP-addresses, usage patterns etc. I think these tools are even built into several forum software packages.

Personally, I am a big supporter of the First Amendment.

Why is Stack Overflow popular and respected? Because if you go there, you will find VALUABLE information and proper answers etc, without the hassle of having to wade through dozens of useless ones. Who isn't on SO? Time-wasters! Guess what: that's a GOOD thing, and the exact same reason similar things (up/down-voting, "reputation", etc) are being built into so many blog and forum engines.

Look around: how many knowledgeable people are one the Org? VERY FEW. Look at the Wiki: empty and abandoned. Why? NO INCENTIVES + dozens/hundreds/thousands of users that DO NOT CONTRIBUTE.

What is so awful about running a forum that attracts smart discussion?
A forum that polices itself (instead of moderators cleaning up after users)?
A place where news gets on the homepage FAST when a few posters with good reputation either submit it or elevate a post to the homepage by giving it good points?
A place where the likes of mzkqueen03 don't ruin threads by nonsensical and illegible posts?

And if you're really keen on the kooks, just give them their own free range forum section where they won't bother anyone.

The Org as it is worked a lot better when the kooks hung out at Prince's place, it wasn't until the NPGMC forums closed that the Org became infested with ... well, you know.

IMHO the main problem of the Org is that "civility" is still valued higher than "knowledge", which is IMHO the wrong way round. I'm not saying that smarter posters result in no one insulting each other, but it will happen less frequently and usually people won't be that offended (because they're grown-ups with a thick skin).

I think it's ridiculous that people get punished on the Org for calling someone "stupid", but if you start threads with the SAME nonsense every couple of months your account doesn't get suspended. At worst your thread gets locked after a while, but it doesn't get deleted -- and since it takes a while before a MOD interferes, chances are that thread is a "hot thread" that gets posted on Twitter first.

As I said before, this is a passive agressive tecnique that seems to be working well. The mods are ignoring it. I can't speak from the side of my neck but instead speak by typing in my honest opinion. I have a right to an opinion and my opinion seems to be shared by MANY orgers who,like me, once supported you. You,IMO, have gone too far and are singlehandedly ruining the org for many people.
