Is the Org spreading itself thin?

I think so... There are just too many forums. We've gone from one extreme to another. It's impossible to check it all unless you have several hours to spare each day. It's like a family of five living in a 200 room castle with several magnificent rooms complete with their own fireplace, big screen tv,fully-stocked bar and adjacent kitchen. They have all the amenities, but rarely meet. "Honey, I love you, but an actual kiss would require me to walk to the eastside, and I'd be late for my meeting".

It's all very neat and orderly to have all these specialized forums, but I bet a study would reveal that barely 20 percent can visit more than two forums often enough to know what's going on. Four or five forums would be more than enough.

There are quite a few excellent topics, but I just can't find them in time. I suspect most of us are having the same experience. The Org Experience is so fractured it's ridiculous.

I bet only 10 percent of Orgers will know this thread exists. Heck, I feel like I need to advertise it in the GD or Prince forum. The Politics and Religion forum seem to have pettered off to three posts an hour after only a week. Of course, it could be that it's Thanksgiving, but still.

Maybe the "most active" and "newest threads" features need to be brought back?

One tell-tale sign is that a significant percentage (if not the majority) of threads in this forum were originally created elsewhere. Some kind of thread cemetery?

i agree...most of the time i reply to something and i never know if anybody responded to my reply or not..cos i either forget what thread it was on, or a thread with almost an identical title about the same topic (or 3) shows up...

is there a solution tho? (you can still access the most recent and most active threads, by the way...the info just isn't on the front page any more...just click on 'hottest topics' under 'discussion forums...)

What good is a feature so hidden? Really...

but...do I really need to see every single thing that goes down on the org?

I log in every few hours each day to see the '25 newest topics' - and I'm disappointed if there aren't 25 new ones. I'd rather have an ocean to explore than a wading pool ~

i agree. while it is nice to not have to read anything by soulpower now that the politics and religion forum has opened, it's really taken away from the GD. likewise, what's the point of the music club forum? all that stuff gets discussed in the Prince forum anyway.

There are those who come here for the actual topics, but I think most come to interact through discussions, humor and other endeavours of various (ir)relevance. This place is just too fractured and compartimentalized. I can only think of a few cases where I actually got to know a bit more about some posters... unlike on the old Org, where there was almost a "village" feel. It kinda reminds me of what happened to Pride Day here in Toronto.

And I thought I was the only one this happened to.

Perhaps, but I think it is too soon to say. The new P&R forum has been popular so far... I don't think anyone could claim that lumping everything into one big General Discussion forum works either. We'll see how it goes... there are probably a few forums that could go IMO.

Seems like NPGMC forum and Prince forum could merge.

I LOVE the P&R forum...I live there.

Suggestions please.

I think the Prince, NPGMC, and related artists forums could merge. I like the P&R forum. We need a GD forum for general social chat crap. The marketplace has it's uses I guess. The music forum is useful. And of course site discussion. That's about it really...

I think it might help to allow for one "create new topic" per day. I think it would really make people think about what they might want their one topic to be and make it a little more interesting.

maybe.

I noitce a lot of topics that are created to answer a post in another topic.

What do you think? I'd be happy with only one chance to create a thread. I'd deffinately want to make it more worth while!

Agreed, that's how I would change it too. There is so little new/worthwhile content in the NPGMC and related artists forums that the Prince forum can easily absorb them.

I love the P&R forum. But I think it should be changed to Philosophy, Politics, and Religion. smile
