I know a man who sells padlocks, in case your supplies are running low in P&R....

Yeah what is going on? Some threads take a couple of days to fester before taking off specially in P&R.

It's Ben's new law. There's a sticky at the top of the forum. No more copy and paste and post and run. Got to add content yourself.

It can only be a good thing. Especially for the padlock industry.

Oh i thought that if a thread wasn't bumped in a 24 hr period it was getting locked.

looks like there are 2 new rules, but only 1 has been posted.

have to say that these new rules seem to only apply to PR.

The forum looks like it is going to be closed with all the locks on it.

Why is that and what about the other forums?

I can understand the new rule but why are you also applying it to threads that already existed before the new rule was announced? Now there are many ongoing discussions all of a sudden closed. Imo it would be better to start with the new rule with threads created after the rule was introduced.

They were given time to adjust the original post - and didn't

They can create a new thread adding/subtracting the content expected from the new rules and conversations can restart

pretty simple

We're not going to go back and change what has been done - we expect orgers who post threads to change their style to fit the new rule

Seriously, you are simply killing the forum with all that locking.
Look at the 1st page. It's full of locks.

Because people didnt post within 24 hours?? Because they posted an article not knowing that wouldnt be allowed anymore and your thread immediately locked? What's the point of that? And why discriminate between forums?

Try it in another forum and look what will happen then.

disbelief

Killing the Fourm - not close - changing it - yes

This is NOT about any other forum period - this new rule is about P&R ~ Made by Ben to better the forum's conversations and threads over all and to help the Mods - YES there will be an adjustment phase and yes people with disagree and not like it and that's okay

Just and FYI for those not knowing / understanding

New P&R forum rule(s) =

PLEASE do not copy articles verbatim from other sites!

If you want to quote something, fine... say where it comes from, provide a link, and also provide ANALYSIS and INSIGHT of your own.

We're here to discuss and debate ideas we actually hold. So make your opinion clear, and remember to do so with civility.

That is not the "rule" that is an action we agreed to take on exsisting threads and new threads we agreed to lock aspa - again, some will dislike what we are doing and some will adjust and everyones reaction is okay BUT it is not going to change what we have done and intend to do in the P&R forum ~ Mach

I am sorry mars but I swear that like half of the threads has been closed because of posting an entire artice and the other half for not being active over 24 hours.

You say that did not happen, but why then did mach have to state these reasons for locking those threads?

I don't get it. Of course every forum is different but there is no explanation whatsoever why this is so absolutely necessary for P&R. It would be a lot better to understand if you guys would actually explain why you are doing this.

You know Mach, I can see a reason for not posting entire articles. It is good that more discussion is stimulated when the the person starting the thread actually adds his/her own opinion and starts a debate. It's also better in compliance with copyright law to have such a policy (but then you should do that too in other forums). So that's cool, but why lock threads for not having posts within 24 hours? I cannot get with that, because I do not always have the time to check the org daily, but I would like to continue or add to some debates a day later. Can you guys not losen up that new rule a bit?

No - I locked threads that the original poster of the thread did NOT update the original post to be in line with the new rule ~ within 24 hrs

That poster then can start a new thread that is in line with the new rules if they choose to and if they do not then that's fine as well

OK. What happened is that if a thread was posted that did not meet the new criteria, the author was contacted and asked to modify it. In some cases, the author refused right off. Those threads were locked. On the remainder, 24 hours was given for the author to make the modifications if that did not happen, the thread was also locked, so I can see where the 24 our idea comes from, but there is no rule that a thread left dormant for 24 hours gets locked.

The P&R forum had become a hit and run dumping ground for alters and trolls, or even regular posters to simply post up something they thought slammed another's opinion or would just get a rise out of people. That offers nothing constructive and is contrary to the goal of real discussion in the forum.

This new rule is to cut down on the hit and run posting and to force people to actually tell us WHY the article is being brought up for discussion. That gives a good jumping off point for other people to start talking.

Often people disagree because of assumptions or a misreading of an article. If we are talking about why we liked / dislike certain things maybe we will start to understand where each person is coming from a bit better. It's almost like having a beer at the White House, but we thought of it first.

I am hoping to clarify the rule soon and add thoughts on youtube videos and such. Thoughts, suggestions, and gripes are always welcome.

Yes - all posts/threads

you can not just copy and paste
you can not NOT add personal thoughts/opinions ideas

overall really there SHOULD be more personal writting posted then what you copy and paste
