New Suggestion About Alter-created Threads

How about the moment they are found to be alters, just delete/remove the thread. I've seen some alter-threads keep going and going yet, for the most part, the thread was created to bait, and served only the purpose of the alter to get people roused up and the thread then spinning out of control long after the alter has been banned.

Mach

I'm just locking them - why hide them ?

I think it's good for people to see that we are locking alter/troll/bait threads as soon as we can ...

no matter how fast or slow - what we do or don't do in P&R

people moan

I also believe that people who fall for and choose to react to the troll and bait have a tad of accountability attached to them as well

But then some true orgers get their threads deleted/removed, so why shouldn't that be the same for those that shouldn't even be here in the first place? I think if you leave the thread visible then that's giving the alter "life" so to speak, and they're probably getting their jollies off that alone.

how about a final statement of the lock action stating the fact that the thread had been created by the alter of (insert org member name here) and is being locked as such?

I think I've seen that, and I believe it was Mach that did in fact clarify why it was being locked.

I agree, expose whoever created the alter, and maybe the threat of such embarrassment will put a stop to this.

The alter doesn't care about being exposed, their sole purpose is to disrupt and cause shit.

divulging a person's user info isn't really how we do things on here, even if we're dealing with an alter. although i will see if ben will add :pitchfork: and :torch: emoticons if that helps any. biggrin

IMO, I think if it's blatantly obvious that a person uses alter accounts to harass/troll, that the alters should be exposed. That right there would eliminate a huge chunk of the temptation for those alter accounts to exist.

that, or it would give them a reason to create a whole new set of alters.
