Prince.org...not tested on Mac OS X?

The menu's don't work, you know the Home, Community, Extras...the Javascript menu's don't work in Internet Explorer, OmniWeb and others.

Why?

Plus on Internet Explorer, when I log in, the whole page gets wacky. The left column stretches way out to the right and the news column gets squashed.

Hm.

Anyone else who uses Mac OS X Jaguar or previous versions have these problems?

I haven't tested it in Mac OS X for quite a while, coz I don't have my Mac anymore. I don't think any of the other Org admins have Mac OS X either. However last time I tried it (I think it was using Mozilla for Mac OS X) it was fine.

Bear in mind IE for Mac OS X is big steaming turd smile

Right!

That's why I'm using OmniWeb. The best darn browser I've used in years...maybe even ever.

Opera sucks, iCabs IE-ish, Mozilla, anh, whatever, but OmniWeb...it's like it's an integrated Apple made browser and fast too.

As a designer though, I try my very best to test pages on every platform I can. Be it Linux, Windows (All versions), Mac OS Classic, Jaguar...heck even Be OS! And on as many platforms as you can. Just a good habit to have. People really do use all kinds of platforms...people try to find the best experience.

Thanks for replying Ian!

Hope you can pass this on to the coders!

I will pass it on. Unfortunately the only person with access to the source for Prince.org is Ben, and since he moved to Europe he hasn't got his dev. environment set up at home yet. Which means code changes are kinda awkward at the moment. I believe that will cease to a problem shortly though.

Oh, of course, that goes without saying for a professional web designer. However since this isn't a commercial site we don't have access to the test resources that a larger site would have. Ben and I are both programmers by profession but if we don't have a machine with Mac OS X then we rely on valuable feedback from people such as yourself to spot issues smile

In the meantime though, feel free to give Mozilla a whirl, I find it pretty decent.

Cheers

Ian

I'm using Mac OS X 10.2.2 and this site works flawlessly with Omniweb and Explorer!

The great thing about Omniweb is that you can login automatically.

Maybe you should check for updates or something... Is there any flash code? Flash for OS X is also being updated regularly.

check for everything: www.versiontracker.com

Back when we were beta-testing the current version of prince.org, we tried to test it on various platforms. I remember Ben asking the beta team members to tell him what operating systems and browsers we were using.

We did want the site to work properly with any "current" browser (i.e., if you're still running Netscape 1.0, forget it) and any operating system. I'm not sure if any of the beta testers had a Mac, though--I haven't used a Mac in at least four years. And if the real problem is with Microsoft's browser, as Ian has suggested, I'm not sure what we can do.

BTW, I should probably state--unlike Ben, Ian, and Kevin, I am not a computer professional. I did take "Introduction to Computing" when in was in college through the Computer Science Department, but that was simply because I wanted an easy "A." smile I'm just a heavy Internet user, and I've managed to teach myself a few things, such as basic HTML, some aspects of the SMTP (email) and NNTP (Usenet) protocols, and setting up a home network. But I'm really not a tech guy.
Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position.

wouldn't you know it, I took a pic like the above and forgot to upload it last night. I'll have to do that this weekend.

Working fine for me. Used to be that, after I logged in, all of the sections were stretched waaay out horizontally, but one of the Org Gods appears to have fixed that (thanks!).

I've been using IE out of laziness, but the beta of Navigator is really nice.

Doves,
