CHECK IT OUT: Music: Non-Prince Forum Flooding Policy

Oh, hi! biggrin

Some of you who visit the Music: Non-Prince forum regularly may notice that some artists get a WHOLE lot of love thrown their way in the form of multiple threads posted on a regular basis.

Now sometimes, this is completely understandable - like, say, when a big name artist releases a new album or announces a huge tour. Okay, that's exciting, we get that.

But some very zealous fans seem to enjoy posting tons of threads on their favorite non-Prince artists, even when those artists aren't really up to much.

Folks, we need to calm this kind of action WAY down.

SO, we're starting a new rule in Music: Non-Prince:

When we mods check out this forum and see more than 5 threads about any given artist posted to the first page (or within the past 24 hours), we will lock those threads and create a sticky thread dedicated to that artist where you can post about this person to your heart's content. BUT. This means you cannot post additional threads on this artist.

We want to make M:NP a forum where people can find discussions based on a broad range of tastes, styles and backgrounds. When it's flooded with dozens of threads about the same few artists, that discourages the diversity this forum intends to promote and celebrate.

So, in short,

CREATE NEW THREADS WITH CARE AND DISCRETION.

LOOK TO SEE IF A THREAD HAS ALREADY BEEN CREATED ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE ARTIST BEFORE YOU CREATE ONE OF YOUR OWN.

UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE NO "IFS OR BUTS" WHEN MULTIPLE THREADS GET LOCKED. THEM'S THE BREAKS. PERIOD.

We cool on that? Good. Problems with that? Shoot me an orgnote or discuss here.

Thanks,
Anx

this is lame. people should entitled to make as many threads as they like. no two threads are the same. its the duty of moderators to shift through the bullshit. threads missing, threads being locked...i swear yall mods are bunch of spolit sports abusing power for no reason.

No two threads are the same? How much you wanna bet on that? Every damn thread in P:M&M has been posted at least five times over the years, and every forum repeats itself over time. And abusing power? How about moron members abusing their priviledges of being members by posting dumbass shit over and over again? ONE thread per member and artist will suffice very nicely, it's entirely possible to gather more discussion points in one thread.
On the whole the site would benefit from a thread starting limit per user and day, you could ask for an exception from the mods should an urgent need for something very important arise after your limit's been reached.

Check my number of posts in M&M before you start up falloff And perhaps you missed the "every forum repeats itself over time" part? If you feel the need to post a shitload of threads every day then you're probably the one who needs to go outside. lol
Ben wouldn't make me a mod if I was the last person on Earth, and I'm absolutely not fit for the job. That doesn't mean I don't care about the site though, it's a pity you don't. Maybe you should find a website you actually care about?

honestly i think the main problem is that old school r&b threads created by people who do not follow current music anymore have taken over and turned off all the people who want to discuss more than just Debarge or MJ

i say, let them have the entire forum - if they are the majority and they seem to enjoy it

i'm done with it because i already know about Kid-n-Play or Al. B Sure
