what did HQ have that the org doesn't (and maybe should?)

or in other words, what do you miss from housequake that the org doesn't have?

what do you think the org should do to stop people missing housequake?

we are all fans of the same artist, and as far as i know, most fans had accounts on both sites, although there appeared to be some kind of divide between fans and the sites

housequake's main function appeared to give news and facts, and discuss prince and his work in technical detail at times. whilst there were other non prince forums, it mainly appeared to me as the more factual site

the org on the other hand appears to be more of a myspace and chatroom type affair where fans hang out and socialise. of course there are forums on prince, but questions appear to be answered less factually perhaps than on HQ

what i'm thinking is why can't the org provide what HQ did, that the org maybe doesn't at the moment? the sites are fairly similar, so it's no real change, apart from the software running the site being different

i mean, should the org have forums to discuss unlreased live, studio and video recordings for example? and have factual stickies with lists of tourdates, released and unreleased tracks? thus providing a new home for those who want to discuss things in great technical detail?

perhaps the need the news on the front page updated more often, as HQ did. the org was a bit slow on that front of late

the way i see it is the org could perhaps go from strength to strength as one site where all english speaking fans gather and contribute, rather than split between two sites. if everything is kept legal and above board then we aren't hurting nobody

so what is it you miss from HQ that the org doesn't provide for you?

by the end, after the videos and most of the better photo albums were gone, the detailed discography section was all i ever used it for.

N what if these ideas upset mr purple. I'd hate to see the same thing go down here as on housequake. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I hope it's more toilets. With all these new HQ folks, I foresee problems ahead.

i thought there would have been quite a lot of replies by now, but then many HQ members are european so maybe haven't been online since i posted. or perhaps i've summed things up well as to what's "missing".

i'm not sure if there can be a photo forum, and a video forum is a no no, so it just leaves the forum content mainly. as far as i'm concerned it would be nice to compile facts and be able to discuss them in more detail. i don't suppose it would be too hard to put that in place. most of the factual content is already floating around, so just needs cut, pasted and formatted

personally i always thought HQ should have kept the videos and photos off the site, and perhaps a seperate site dedictated to photos and videos setup instead, so it keeps the main site free from legal disputes

It didn't have posts like this.

There's no point trying to change this place to be like HQ. There are many good people here I'm sure but because of the vastness and unwieldiness of this site (due to the sheer number of people here) you're always going to get a lot of idiots spoiling it.

I'm sure the mods do the best they can but having seen some of the rampant flaming and trolling that goes on, I can't see this place ever being like HQ. So you either except the Org for what it is, or you go elsewhere.

Thank you.

Either you get in where you fit in or move on but trying to make the org into housequake won't be a popular idea. Perhaps that accounts for the lack of responses.

I agree that it would not be a successful venture to try to turn the org into HQ.
But I also agree HQ's closing has left some holes out there. Nothing wrong with trying to attempting to fill a couple of them.

i'm not suggesting turning the org into HQ at all. i'm just wondering why HQ become so popular and why the org can't fulfill those requirements

it's maybe a bit like the old mac vs pc arguement which normally boils down to the fact that pc does everything just as well as a mac and a lot more, but cheaper, and mac fans simply prefer the feel, layout and look of mac and don't mind paying more for it

i think the "first" post is a good example of why some people preferred HQ, as it lacked stupid posts like what colour of underpants prince wore, and went off topic with discussions on whether prince wore underpants or not. surely there is scope to provide areas where people can post that kind of stuff as well as a place where facts and figures can be posted and discussed without nonesense being posted

there are a number of ways to do that. one simple one is to create a set of rules relating to the individual forums, thus some forums can allow babble, but perhaps others are subject to on topic posts only, and padding, trolling, and quoting entire posts are not allowed. so those who aren't interested in the geeky stuff can keep posting without upsetting anyone, and those who don't care if prince wears underpants or not can avoid those areas

i'm therefore only really suggesting we but a bit more prince back into the org, and i don't think it's asking much. that was the original intention of the site as far as i understood. that's why i came here when it started over 10 years ago

There's been a few threads/posts recently regarding splitting Prince: Music and More into Prince: Music and Prince: More. Maybe that would be the road to go down to satisfy the HQ refugees.

I don't know the Prince-related areas of this site very well let alone HQ, so I'm probably not the best person to say what could fill the void best.

Anyway, check back a few weeks/months in this forum for those thinking along those lines. Here's a few.

In my views, it should be more organize. Searching should be at least easier. Also, more info about albums. Which in housequake they had all the info about it.

I don't mind though, its just something I miss. But I can be content with what Prince.org provides.

but the org is also a great site, just different. wink

HQ got news faster and it seemed like there was a wide variety of "real" fans there of all ages and nationalities. It was very organized. Especially when it came down to the trading and taping of unreleased Prince music. When it had the videos and pictures, I thought they could have almost charged a membership fee -it was so good.

A few things I would change about the Org would be the ugly purple background, and delete accounts more often - esp. anyone who continuously posts threads about MJ, Beyonce, Janet, Britney, etc. Or anyone who complains about today's music. Then again, I guess Prince fans are getting old. I did not feel that way over at Housequake though.

I didn't care much for housequake either, but i think it was fine if you were a prince fan. What I love bout the org is that its not just bout P and his crappy music. The org is more open ended.
