Again, we need more/new mods, the last thread is too old

The last thread is too old to post on, and this needs to be discussed in a serious manner.
I've been away for quite some time now, but I come back to a site full of crazy kids and no teachers to watch them or teachers who look the other way. The mods are stretched way too thin and mod too many forums, it's inevitable that you bond with certain members and would rather not moderate them but when there are too few you don't have a choice and then the outcome isn't good. Everywhere I look there is malcontent - people who want to discuss Prince can't do it cos the looneybin has an open door policy now, people who want to goof can't keep it to goof threads only and then offend people who want to discuss other things in, for example, GD. There are a gazillion alter/ghost accounts and nobody to keep them in check, and let's not even mention P&R.
This will, indirectly, be criticism of the current moderators, but take it for what it is: Recognition of the fact that you guys do the best you can but you need help and you need it fast. You need it fast and we regular members need it fast, or the site will deteriorate with even more good people leaving or deserting some forums than has already happened. Everybody should be in favour of a vibrant and active site, by whatever means that is. Right?
So, could we please come together to ask Ben to instate new mods, or could we at least get some answer as to whether the suggestion process needs to be reinitiated? Thanks. rose

I whole heartedly agree.

I'll be the first to say that I appreciate the work that the mods do. They don't have to do it and this site wouldn't be as good if they weren't here. So, I want to thank all the mods for their hard work.

But, I have too noticed some unsavory things during my time here. I do think that the mods need more help. It's not a put down, just a constructive criticism.

If I were a mod I think I'd be glad for any help IMO.

I also think that in order to have an objective moderation, cases of moderation should be dealt by at least two moderators. I've encountered a problem of moderator dealing with a report about their own post and ignoring it. I believe it wouldn't have been ignored, or at least would get some attention, if it was dealt by an objective moderator.

Actually I was brainstorming around this in the chat room (that you NEVER visit anymore brick ) just a couple nights ago or so - that exact thing, that two mods are needed to make a decision and not just one. The moderating their own post is beyond silly, I don't think we need to tell whoever it is that it was wrong cos they know it. This opinion of ours also call for quite a large number of new mods, so here's hoping good people will again step up to the plate. pray

It is not funny, sad actually. I have my share of enemies. Ppl dislike me because of who I share my bed with.
Oh well... I think being a mod might be a bit over rated.
wink
Besides, you get no back up...though deleting posts would be cool for a day.

Honestly, it's time Ben let go of that old shit - there is NO ONE, I'm saying NO ONE, who'd be better suited to mod Music:Non-Prince . You're perfect because you'll keep it about the MUSIC and not MJ's latest mouthcover. I think you should state your case cos there is nobody but Ben who's grinding that old crap anymore. I have nothing but love for Ben but on this one account; He has no idea what's going on here anymore.
You need to be a mod.

Yep, now there are only about 5 more needed, mostly for GD but Finess is needed for Non-Prince as well.

I really appreciate the support. I guess if I am meant to be a mod for that particular area it will be so. But if I am not it is nice to know that people took the time out to recognize me.

Did you make an application to Ben then? All he has to do is look at your Org record of the past few years (which has to be as clean as a baby's bottom) and ask around the chat room - you're squeaky now and have been for a long time. If you think it'll help I'm sure there's a few of us who'll give support. Count me in.

Dude - YOU will be the mod so YOU run a campaign. I am not your campaign manager, I've got other stuff on my agenda. razz But write Ben and let me know when you have, then I'll write and support you. Unless he's lurking and reading this of course - then I've already supported you enough. mr.green

I'm curious... other than in P&R and Prince: M&M, do people feel there are more mods needed elsewhere? I generally only see a couple of reports a day in the forums I mod for, if that, barring something unusual happening. That means either another mod got to other ones first or there simply aren't many reports. Either way, the reports are being responded to in a fairly timely manner. Certainly not real-time all the time, but within a few hours at the least.

Thoughts?

Honesty here Carrie - the need for more/new mods isn't because the workload is too big for y'all - it's because too many members have issues with the way you do your job. To explain bluntly, the way we feel you do NOT do your job. I don't think I'm going out on a limb saying this, here's hoping that people aren't as pussyfooted as usual, but... regardless of who one is and what we want our experience on this site to be, there are a lot of people who feel that the mods play favourites or the exact opposite - that people are no longer treated equally regarding the site rules. This will enevitably happen for several reasons;
1. We are all humans - we connect with others and mods are definitely not supposed to keep aloof.
2. For the same reasons we connect with some people, with some we just can't.
3. 1&2 put together will mean, unless the mods are superhuman, that the likelihood of them treating everybody equally is slim to none. Seriously, do you expect anybody to treat information from your best friend irl the same as somebody you really dislike? I don't.
4. The current (old) mods have served extremely well, but personally I feel it's time for all of you to retire. In the feelings of too many ordinary members you are all "tainted", for lack of a better word - interpret it as "burned out" or "biased", both are true. Members and mods wear on each other, simple as that.

Here goes nothing, the curse of being honest and not being able to shut the hell up.
To the mods that do, thank you for reading.

Eh, fair enough. You've stated your opinion. I disagree, but then what do you expect, I suppose. I guess I don't understand where you're coming from when I barely have any reports to even respond to and when I do, 9 times out of 10 I agree with what was reported and respond accordingly. I don't see how that means I am burnt out, tainted or biased.

I'll ask you this then; Have the number of reports decreased recently? Cos personally I believe that many members just don't bother reporting things anymore. I know some wouldn't and especially if the comment you have issues with is from a mod, considering that one mod dealt with a report concerning one of their own posts. This just isn't right, and there are more things along the same lines.
I have no grounds for believing the number of reports have gone down, I'm just asking. As for the other thing, that I do have grounds for.
