Some people just don't know how to appreciate help to make this site a better place, so ignore them.

It's a nice temporary solution, but I like the feature of having the videos embedded. Ben mentioned he's got a new server to move us to, it's just a matter of him finding the time to move us. So methinks the problems will likely be over then.

An embedded video is still hosted by the source website, not by this website.

But what you don't seem to understand that an embed can also cause allocation of disk base by its buffering. And causing a huge cache problem. And I hate to keep waving my degree around. But as a person with a degree in Information technology I would think that my word would mean something. And as I try to continue to help this place out it would be helpful to the org and its moderators and most importantly the admin to take some time out and listen.

In the case of the org, this actually has no impact on our disk space or buffering or anything similar -- it does have an effect on YouTube, but I'm not worried about them smile

The main thing that eats up our disk space are the webserver and database logs, in particular the replication logs (which are needed to ensure we always have a backup of the database). That eats about 100 megabytes every few days. Trust me, there's no way to slim down the posts that will prevent that from being so big smile

If you find that youtube embeds slow your browser, try using Firefox, and perhaps installing the "Flashblock" plugin (I think it's called) -- it'll make the videos appear as a blank box that you need to click on, to have them loaded, if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the helpful thoughts though!

Isn't it fantastic how folks can alienate people that have been here from the VERY beginning when they're trying to help? It's beyond me but still not, people will be assholes regardless of whatever.
I'm sorry you're getting this treatment Finess, but you know this already. It still deserves saying. hug

If you saw a lady walking down the street with the back of her skirt accidentally tucked into her panties, would you let her walk on regardless?

I'd stop her and let her know that people were looking. She probably wouldn't thank me, after rearranging herself and dashing away - but it would still have been the right thing to do.

Depends on if I knew her or not, and if I knew her, whether I liked her or not. biggrin But... a LADY wouldn't get caught like that.
I don't have any idea what your post has to do with anything though. shrug

But, to have an actual idea - I think that there should be a limit on how many threads you can start a day cos some people are starting way too many and on a daily basis. It seems to me that...3 maybe, would be more than enough. It would cut down on the threads nobody looks at anyway and make people think a little bit more before creating one.
I also think that cutting down on somebody's posts severely for a week or so could be a proper action taken by mods for a lesser offense on the boards, and less dumbass posts also lessen the size of the site data.

How about it Ben? And mods?

With all the issues the site has been having lately maybe a rule needs to be put in place regarding all of the photowhore threads that take up so much space...really is there any need to quote photos? Especially multiple times or when there are multiple photos in one post.

I think even 3 / day is too much, just look at how many useless threads about songs that get 0 replies appear in the non-Prince music forum.

I belong to another board that does this. If you get out of hand, the mods just cut your posts. I can make 100 in a 24 hr period now. But once I was cut down to 20. boxed Some people are cut to 5 for being idiots. lol I think it's a good idea. Makes you think about what you say.

I like the idea, even if space is not a concern. It would certainly cut down on dupe threads and other shenanigans.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

Personally I do too, but I do respect that a lot of people frequent a lot more forums on the site than I do and have real interests in them, and if you really have interesting thoughts to form threads of in for example P:M&M, P&R and GD in the same day, you should be able to do so. nod Me, I couldn't think of 3 threads to start in the same day to save my life, but then I'm not hanging around regularly in that many forums. lol

Thank you for mentioning that, I had a feeling some sites would do so even though I'm not a member of one that does. Making people aware of what they say and where is the idea of it. However, one thing that occurred to me is that REALLY Org obsessed people might create/use an alter account just to be able to post their sh... stuff, and that's already a problem as it is. hmmm
