Emoticons vs. Words

So if somebody strictly used emoticons to voice their disagreement with something on this board (middle fingers [doesn't that still mean fuck you?], stfu, steaming pile of doo doo), is that okay versus actually typing it?

Really curious.

As the rules state:

"Be civilized
Don't create offensive, vulgar, obscene, threatening, abusive or excessively profane posts. Do not instigate, engage in, or encourage 'flame wars'. If you insult someone "jokingly", be prepared to have it not interpreted that way by the Moderators. A good general rule: "criticize ideas, not people." Any language which encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense is grounds for immediate account deletion."

I am not sure about official Emocon rules

If Ben added the emocon to the use list - it is hard for me to see how we can punish someone for using what the owner of the sight listed as something for everyones use

I know it may be the intention behind the use - but still ... Ben has them there for all to use

I've heard a few tell me lately that they cannot seem to get a response from any mods. I thought I read recently that they always, always let a person know why, when, what, & where. So, I don't know what's going on, GNS. shrug

Are you saying you were issued a "Strike" (?) -

The only way you would know that is if you were issued an official strike

Orgers do not have access to the Mod portal and would not be able to know that they are given a strike without the notice that comes when we issue one.

Ok. I might be using the wrong term. I meant to say I was put on ice for a week for responding to several flames against me. Even my signature got suspended, and when I asked why; nothing.

Strike may have been the wrong term.

Who did you ask? Was it by orgnote or by e-mail?

But if you were able to ask by orgnote then you weren't banned... or did you ask after the ban had expired?

As for not being notified, it's happened to a lot of people but according to the mods it's impossible. Don't expect an answer beyond that.

That seems to be a bit of a quandary. You received no notification, yet know who locked your account, and I have no communication back either by orgnote or e-mail.

If you want to orgnote me now I can discuss it with you.

A quandary indeed when you consider after I asked about my signature, my editing capabilities were restored.

Let me be clear, because it seems y'all are getting caught up in the semantics of the terminology.

I was locked out of my account without a WARNING after defending myself against other comments. After that expired, I logged in and noticed my signature editing capablities were disabled. When I asked why this was, I received no response. Yet shortly thereafter, the ability was restored. Got it?

And what purpose would an org note serve that writing right here (even though we've gotten waaay off topic), couldn't.
