It either refers to a sleep or taking a break w/o sleep. I say just taking a break.

Of course... I always said so and actually got flamed for it when the new Org opened. But my argument isn't that they are good for the soul, but that they are inevitable and normal. You can curb them, but trying to get rid of them totally would be like putting the Org in a straightjacket. Normal relationships include the possibility of freely expressing a whole range of emotions. Enforcing civility is possible, but at the expense of authentic expression (as opposed to feeling obliged to always be so darn nice). smile

I think that's kinda what we try to achieve with the Org smile It's not enforced "niceness" - you certainly don't have to like everyone and be nice to everyone.

My approach on the Org is - we avoid personal insults and abuse, because they are petty and contribute nothing to a discussion other than letting it descend into the "you're an asshole", "no, you're an asshole" type of arguments.

Assuming we achieve that basic level of civility, there is still plenty of scope for good arguments, good discussion, and subtle, clever put-downs. I think it is good and reasonable to make the people here try to communicate without taking the moronic route of just saying "you're a fat ugly bastard" or "fuck off and die you asshole" etc etc.

So I'm of the opinion that arguments are good, clever arguments are better, clever and humourous put-downs are great, but flaming people is just plain banned.

With regard to the recent flamey threads (i.e. the one about moderateTHIS) I don't really think of that as a "flame war" - the discussion got pretty heated but really, it seemed that many people needed to vent some steam on the issue and thankfully the personal jibes were kept to a minimum.

And I agree with SexLovely
