I wasn't looking for reassurance, I was simply stating a fact lol but thanks anyway

I do appreciate you saying those things, but I kind of feel bad now for even saying I'm a loser out loud, cause people jumped in to my defence falloff and then I worry people will think that is why I said it, to get reassurance.

the truth is, things will turn around and the message board folks will be the norm, and other people still doing things IRL will be the losers hah!

waveI'm wunna those people who spends all of his waking hours here on this site.
But that's only cuz the outside world always made me feel like a loser.
But then, I discovered the org. And you guys, without ever seeing me or meeting me, made me feel like a winner.
In reality, I'm obesely fat, monstrously hairy, have a quasimodoishly unsymetrical face & possess a penchant for emitting a body odor that tops the highest level of the term "epic".
And yet , y'all have always managed to make me feel beautiful here. When I'm logged on, I always feel like Prince, at the end of the Purple Rain movie, all happy & energetic, dancing around, touching hisself & squirting out his guitar all over his adoring fans 'n' shit....
mushy
So, now I say, fuck the real world. I don't need it.
All I need is you guys.

It's amazing. Since falling into a serious relationship, my org time has dropped dramatically. Now I only seem to have time and desire to get on when I'm home all day with a cold...sick, and trying desperately to distract myself. I discovered the org at a difficult part of my life, a huge transitional time, where I was loosening several important long-term relationships and it was an emotional lifesaver.

That being said, I could never have guessed how valuable this message board would become. I found a place to express myself freely unlike any other sphere. I met people with whom I would never cross paths with otherwise, and learned so much from all of them. This site helped me build social skills and I've taken that confidence into real time.

I also like coming here to voice secrets and feelings I don't always feel like I can share in real life. It's an instant community for feedback and fodder, always available, 24/7.

So rather than being a compensation for something missing, I would more characterize it as an enhancement and a tool to support my life as a whole.

Interesting that in 2008, time on the Internet/in virtual spaces and by extension an online social life are still being considered by some as somehow inferior in quality than time spent in the offline world, as well as somehow less 'real'.

For all the talks of our 'new fast-paced global digital era', we are evolving very slowly, it seems...

nod I get so sick of that. I have friends on the net I'd die for and friends in real life I could forget tomorrow if I wanted to.

If that doesn't say something about relationships over the net, I don't know what does.

Yeah...i live miles away from my friends so my social life is practically non existent. I live with my partner but our relationship sucks and i'm in love with someone else....so think you could say it's compensating for something

and the org is pretty good...
