Are people who spend a lot of time on message boards....

...compensating for a lack of something in their lives? i know its cliche, but i think its a valid question. is your social life lacking? would a serious relationship affect the amount of time you spend here?

or is the org just that good?

needed some time to think about it, huh? no, i'm not criticizing at all as i spend quite a bit of time on other message boards. it was truly a question borne of curiousity. i say whatever one wants to do with one's life is just fine and dandy. i just wonder if its the community or compensation.

didn't mean to curl your chest hair.

no, dear. i'm having a wonderful day. and i'm honestly not trying to be judgemental. when i've spend huge amounts of time online it has been because i was compensating for things i was missing in my life. and i'm thankful for it. it was a wonderful diversion.

i'm just curious as to how others see it for themselves. perhaps i've moved into inappropriate territory.

Aw, I gotcha, I guess. You're generally kind of "chummy", this time you seem so serious, especially today of all days. But it's all cool. Never really thought about it, seems like most people engage online sometime or other. It's gotten to be a kind of go with the flow thing for me.

When I come here now, it's mainly just for 5-10 minutes of mindless fun...I work at my computer all damn day and night lol...so I need the occasional breaks, both from my work and from my computer completely. I sometimes go outside and take a quick walk, or I'll go buy a Coke, or I'll watch a rerun of The Simpsons or I'll stop by here and post two or three times, send an Orgnote, then log off.

Back when I was here ALL the time, though, yeah...one of the reasons was to compensate for what I was lacking in "real" life. But just as big a reason was because this place was enjoyable and the people here had great personalities and I clicked with a lot of Orgers (at least on threads)...it was a hang out and a place to procrastinate when I didn't feel like getting to work right away lol lol...

Yes and no. I think I originally came here because my social life was lacking a bit but my life has picked up and I still come back. Even if it's just for 10 minutes or to lurking.

I feel like I would be expressing myself in a different way if I didn't have this outlet. But I'm so used to coming here & venting/giving my 2 cents, it's hard not to pop in when online. confused But yea, there's something lacking in my life. I need to fix that shit immediately exclaim

dont be silly, you are amazing, I love your photos, their simplicity, to capture such moments, not only do you need a good camera but a good eye to capture that moment or even see it in the first place.

Which means you have beautiful eyes wink

The answer to all of these questions is yes.
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

I started orging when I was pregnant, at home and bored and now that I have a young child I definitely do not get out as much as I used to. So in that sense it's totally compensating for my really limited social life. Once I have more free time out of the house, I'll have less time to org.

nod

My sister when , her kids were still infants and toddlers, would call me constantly cause she just needed 'adult' conversation.

It can be very tough the first few years--rewarding, but tough.

I think the org supplements our lives, for each person to different extents, but it certainly isn't a sign that people are 'losers'. The wonderful folks I've met through this website certainly aren't losers.
