Prince.org is dead

Who killed it? After this whole debacle wouldn't it be better to rename this site something else? I think the remaining participants might be happier and Prince himself would be. Who evers side u are on in this debate (I'm not on either) I think that u have to admit that the so-called mission of Prince.org appears to be obselete.

It seems that a lot of the people who don't want to call Prince names have decided to remove themselves from the site. What appears to be left are a bunch of unhappy ex-prince fans. If Prince was unhappy with the site to begin with I can only assume he really hates it now. Who would want A site around named after them that seems to be more about putting them down than celebriting them? Is that now the point of its existence?

Over the years I have felt that Prince was the "goose that laid the golden egg" eventually the greed and obsessivenes of his fans would turn on him. The man can't seem to age gracefully without the so-called fans harping on what he is not as oppsosed to what he still is. Every move he makes, every song he creates is brutilized by some segment of the fan base. It almost like too many of us saw Prince as some God but when he was revealed as just a very talented human being all this anger is thrust at him. The bitterness and nastiness that is exhibited here is really breathtaking. I'm hoping that many of the extremely negative things said here are said by children. Its hard to believe adults can be so down right vicious and petty.

No matter how I live, No matter what Prince goes through, I would be more than happy to have any negativity filtered through me. He ain't that heavy.

Someone that loves Prince for his spirit as well as his music will always be happy.

A lot of things that have been said, are more dramatic than anything that should be taken seriously.

It ain't that bad - anyone artist with a hardcore following is going to get criticism when their work doesn't live up to expectations. Prince has been adored and recieved enormous critical acclaim - now he's got to accept the flip-side.

And to be honest I think he thrives on this kind of atmosphere. After the success of Purple Rain he alienated a huge portion of his fanbase. After Diamonds & Pearls (his second best-selling album) he did it again. Recently his star has ascended again, and what does he do? It's partly why I love the man. He's a genius, not an affable guy next door, and if he can give me an album as funky as PFUnk,long may he remain so.

prince.org is dead, long live prince.org lol

Good thread, I was thinking the same. Sometimes some of the most obsessive fans can be the nastiest and most negative, I think some "fans" think they own and can control him. Its Prince's right to have control over where his music, image and videos are distributed. Its a BUSINESS.

I'm sure Prince has given more to these "fans" than they perceive him as "taking away".

I think this is a bit personal -- we don't know Prince. None of us do. The most loyal, devoted, self-proclaimed Prince "Fam" doesn't know a damn thing about Prince other than the music he writes and the stories that are printed about him. So lets not act like this site is a personal site about him. No - it's a site that allows people to discuss Prince -- the public persona of prince -- and his music.

This site allows us to critique his music, comment on it, celebrate it, hate it, come up w/ interesting theories on it, etc... If we're wrong, if we're mean, if we're crazy and obsessive -- so what? None of us know Prince as a person and we'd be a delusional to say we do -- so he shouldn't be offended. This is the price he's had to pay for voluntarily being in the public eye and making millions of record sales.

So get a reality-check --- we are all just fans to some degree and "Prince" is nothing more than a public persona to us - and never will be more personal than that. Get a grip.

But what we do know is Prince is a living human being with real feelings just like u and I. And just like I don't go around insulting folks I claim to love or complete strangers I would think we could give him that much respect. People say things online that they would never say to people in person. I find that cowardly.

None of us is taking this personal. I am sure Prince is old enough and mature enough not to take it personal either, or else he should not be in this business to start with.

Alot of us, just come here for a chat or a moan, since we all seems to share the same hobby "Prince". Just chill out!

You make the fundumental point in Prince's argument. In general discusion, there are threads about sheep sex and anal sex. Now don't get me wrong, i'm as intregued about sheep as the next bloke, but maybe Prince don't wanna know, and were discussing these topics under his name.

I still like the org since you guys get the news before anyone. You had the link for PFUnk before anyone. Also, I DO think Prince is nuts for combing the internet so much. Biting the hand that feeds him. BUT the org has disolved into some major petty drama. The people who diss Prince albums that aren't even out yet need to chill. The flames some people get for having the gall of saying they actually like the new stuff is just crap. Finally for those of you who say they'll never buy another thing from Prince until he apologizes...all I gotta say is 'YEAH RIGHT!!'

I'm not an unhappy ex-Prince fan. I still listen to his music.
I'm not a child either. I'm a 52 year old working professional.
Since you brought up "petty", what crossed my mind, is the silliness of the "no tattoo images" issue. Prince is an adult, right?
This site doesn't need to change the name. There simply needs to be wider discussion on noodles, tennis racquets, and Machiavelli.

They need to call this place Anti-Prince.org it is more fitting....

I came here to discuss Prince's music with others who share my interests but instead I seem to be up against the wall with the Prince haters in here... sad

It is no wonder Prince wants to shut the org down, it is NOT his fansite. It is defintely not about FREE speech. They want to tell you what you should call yourself here... etc etc sad

If this is a Prince.org FAN site:

How is calling Prince vulgar names and posting pictures of him instead of B*TCH and P***y acceptable? Would you like to be called that when you have a name?

How are hateful attacks on his physical attributes acceptable when he has no control of them?

How is it that people here can go around posting random messages of hate in threads that have nothing to do with the original post??

How are disparaging photoshopped pictures of him acceptable
and I have several other issues... but this should do for now?

How is all this "FREE SPEECH" when Prince is not here to defend himself?

Contact 3121: insist the site have forums, such as what's here. Better yet, e-mail Prince and inform him, he needs to develope an alternative site, so members can interact with each other, and only say positive things.
This site allows members to freely state their opinions. Period.
That's not going to change.

Start with NPG, Paisely Park, 3121. There's a solution to the problem. Prince.org isn't going to change site rules for you, or anyone else, when other members are dismayed, by Prince's disappointing behavior, and express so..
