You make the fundumental point in Prince's argument. In general discusion, there are threads about sheep sex and anal sex. Now don't get me wrong, i'm as intregued about sheep as the next bloke, but maybe Prince don't wanna know, and were discussing these topics under his name.

One...this isn't prince's site. Two...prince had his own general discussion type forum on the club.

What is Prince paying you not to think on your own.....for real.

So if we all agree with free speech, who started to to try and stop what someone else thought????

Fams wanting to stop all the "Haters".

In other words, people who don't like opinions other than their own.

Exactly, my suggestion to rename this site to Anti-Prince.org was not about stopping the haters... look at how quickly they came to jump me and prove that they are "FOR FREE SPEECH" yet want to stifle my right to express it as my perception of the org when I am just agreeing with OP and suggesting a different name for this madhouse (madhouse.org??). I think Prince needs a fansite where his music and artistry is celebrated.
The org does not serve it's purpose of being a Prince "FANSITE", more like a Prince hate site, look at all the negative threads and the way Prince is treated here (he is not here to defend himself mind you)... seems to attract people who have hatred for themselves and who just jump at every opportunity to take it out on others. sad
[Edited 11/16/07 19:51pm]

Remember, he started his own site and even there people still felt they had the RIGHT to disagree with Prince. He couldn't handle it. There is nothing wrong with people criticizing the decisions he's made.

To me the Org has always served as a place where you could criticize Prince without the flower, kool-aid drinking children faint from all the so-called negative possessing them. This is why the top three FAN sites have survived is because there's a balance.

The Org allows people to openly say when prince is getting on their nerves AND when they love him. I hate the fluff.

Who killed it? After this whole debacle wouldn't it be better to rename this site something else? I think the remaining participants might be happier and Prince himself would be. Who evers side u are on in this debate (I'm not on either) I think that u have to admit that the so-called mission of Prince.org appears to be obselete.

It seems that a lot of the people who don't want to call Prince names have decided to remove themselves from the site. What appears to be left are a bunch of unhappy ex-prince fans. If Prince was unhappy with the site to begin with I can only assume he really hates it now. Who would want A site around named after them that seems to be more about putting them down than celebriting them? Is that now the point of its existence?

Over the years I have felt that Prince was the "goose that laid the golden egg" eventually the greed and obsessivenes of his fans would turn on him. The man can't seem to age gracefully without the so-called fans harping on what he is not as oppsosed to what he still is. Every move he makes, every song he creates is brutilized by some segment of the fan base. It almost like too many of us saw Prince as some God but when he was revealed as just a very talented human being all this anger is thrust at him. The bitterness and nastiness that is exhibited here is really breathtaking. I'm hoping that many of the extremely negative things said here are said by children. Its hard to believe adults can be so down right vicious and petty.

Tricky, you created one of the most excitng threads I've ever read on the org. Wow, the stuff I've read here is crazy clapping

Agreed and change the name to whatever they want to and give Prince back his name.

It is NOT about FREE SPEECH when all they are doing here is tarnishing his image rather than celebrating his work. Prince is NOT here to defend himself.

In fact thats exactly what it is all about

Free speech

As Voltaire put it "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

You might not like what some people post here, prince might not like what people post here, but just because you don't like it, it doesn't give anyone the right to stop people saying what they think or feel

In the USA, free speech is almost sacrosanct under the first amendment of the constitition

Here it is enshrined in a variety of acts of Parliament and in common law

Its the most fundamental tenet of a free and democratic society

How would you feel if someone started dictating to you where and how you could express yourself?

Imagine if politicians adopted the same attitude and placed conditions on where and how they could be criticised?

Where do you draw the line?

Prince has lived off of publicity, good and bad, for nearly 30 years

You cannot all of a sudden after that period of time decide you wish to control everything that comes into the public domain, and what is already in the public domain

You cannot abrogate other peoples intellectual property rights

If this whole issue had been handled in a more diplomatic way from the start, noone would be arguing about this

Legal thuggery gets you nowhere

Thank you for your FREE SPEECH definition, now read what I have to say.

I am married to an American and have lived in the USA long enough to know what free speech is.

However I see something wrong about calling this site a Prince fan site and thus attracting his fans here only to see Prince being viciously attacked in the forums by non fans and ex-fans who despise him and his music. They also attack his fans / fams and ridicule them on their liking Prince and his music.
If I love his music, why am I not allowed to discuss it freely.

Read the posts within this thread to see how it is done... sad

Ben created this site using his name and image to celebrate his music and accomplishments. It has done its job and now has morphed into something else..a Prince hate site if you will. You don't want to see it, but I do and his fans do. That is why there is a rebellion and Prince wants to close it.
I for one have no interest in visiting any other forums other than Concert and PMM....

It does very little of appreciating his music more of the hating and attacking on his fans. I myself have been subjected to it. If it is free speech as you say... then why gang up and attack me for what I have to say...

Everyone has a right? Correct?

Or is the Free Speech only for the Non-fans and Ex-fans?

Prince has rights as well.. doesn't he? Do you think it is fair?

For some reason the .org site keeps eating my words!

Firstly I have never "ganged up" on you nor tried to deny you freedom of speech

Quite the opposite

If you feel, I have please show me where, I would be more than interested to see it

Secondly, you vociferously defend your right to exercise freedom of speech and yet at the same time advocate the closure of this site thus denying others the very same right

Where is the logic in that?

You state prince is trying to close the site, isnt that denying people free speech and a forum to exercise that freedom?

I also believe you are confusing two issues here, being a fan of the music and being a fan of the man

You can be a fan of an artists musical genius, as I am, without being a fan of the person

Some of the most fantastic pieces of music throughout history have been composed by complete douchebags

Wagner was a raving anti semite and yet composed great music

Does being a fan mean you have to like the man as well as the music?

Of course not

I've had a good look through this site and the majority of negative posts about prince are about him as a person and his actions that have affected fans detrimentally, and are limited to a few threads

The overwhelming majority of threads on this site are positive about prince as an artist

I also believe some of the posts on here are deliberately being placed to give a false impression of this site and to be deliberately divisive and inflammatory

You ask the question "prince has rights doesnt he?"

Yes he does, and so does everyone else

I have not seen anyone state he cant enforce his rights either

The problem is his "representatives" are now infringing other peoples

A point you singularly fail to address in your posts

You cannot advocate rights for one and not rights for all
