As far as ANONYMITY goes...

I wonder how many of u would change ur tune, or continue posting the way u do if u were 2 use or REAL names and UR OWN PICS as avatars in this PUBLIC DOMAIN..

We r all somewhat public figures on the net, does this mean we must all forfeit (self)respect and common courtesy, the way some of y'all xpect Prince 2!?

The hypocrisy kills me.
Keep hiding... loser

That is a very good question and I have been wondering myself. I try to be the same as I would anywhere but in real life I am vvvery shy and wouldn't normally act this way - for the most part. Since no one really knows who I am though, I do tend to say things - just blurt them out. Sometimes it seems like there are no consequences by posting but you know that is not true, you can still hurt people on the other end.

(I'm still staying anonymous though because I don't really want people to know me.) wink

People should not b hurt by words on a screen, no matter how cruel, wicked or plain stupid the intent. They're just words. Good 'mind slayers' have such a way with words... Protect ur mind castles. Keep these mongrels at bay.
The more i think about, and get worked up over this, the more i believe Prince is doin us all a favor by his actions/inactions.
Being hurt by peoples opinions/posts is ultimately up 2 the individual themselves, altho I do agree most decent people shouldn't have 2 b subjected 2 such behaviour. I'm sure there r plenty of anarchist websites out there, that's where y'all belong...

Well believe it or not friend, u may b sittin in the comfort of ur own home, school library or whatever, but the internet is a PUBLIC DOMAIN. When u post where every1 can c, in a public forum, u bcome a 'public figure'. Not of Prince's calibre obviously but... a public figure nevertheless. lol

No, not xactly. Freedom of choice is 1 thing, but how u go about xhibiting that freedom of choice is another. Especially when the choices we all make as individuals r heralded on a site which I imagine was born out of overall love & respect 4 the artist. RESPECT.

U wanna have foul mouthed opinions, make ill in4med decisions that's fine that's ur choice, but when u start imposing those things upon others, especially in places such as this where supposed supporters/critics of an artist collectively meet, honestly 1 should sometimes xercise some restraint. Being 'anonymous' may often deter people from really thinking things thru, and contemplating the outcome of their actions. neutral I'm as guilty as the next fan btw. by no means innocent at all.
This whole 'internet free4all' business is such a load of bull. The world was a much nicer place b4 cell phones & the internet, I'm convinced. Either that or i'm gettin old... lol
And as a sidenote, Prince if ur reading this, try sueing some1 worthwhile like that geek Bill Gates. He's the ultimate instigator of all of this afterall. geek

Right we r not of the same calibre...meaning what we have 2 offer overall 2 the public, comes nowhere near 2 what Prince or any artist 4 that matter does, especially in terms of THEIR ART/PRODUCT.
However...if u switch the focus 2 TIME SPENT in public, most of us here would far xceed Prince in that department, and as such r in fact more public figures than him.
Think about it. That's all.
Take the character lspear (or whatever their disguise is) 4 xample... blurting crap out left right n centre on here. Now if they had their passport photo as an avatar and used their real name, so 1 might recognise them out in public in the real world if they were 2 cross their path, i imagine they'd refrain from posting comments like the 1's they have. People like this r PUBLICLY RIDICULING THEMSELVES, simply bcause they can get lost in the anonymity.
I can understand why they wouldnt tho, cause some1 as ugly as that on the inside musn't b a very pretty picture overall.

Respect and courtesy is one thing, true. Prince is a very public figure/persona who soaks up and depends on public notoriety. The outcome comes with the territory.

Soaks up and depends on public notoriety? I think not. U can't speak 4 him on that. Granted he attempts 2 turn any such instance in2 something positive & beneficial as far as HIS BUSINESS goes, so it may seem that way. He's good like that. cool
The outcome comes with the territory? Who made that rule? Prince has and always will b a pioneer at the top of his game. Respect.

You must be far off on a more analytical wavelength. He's an artist and he's depended on public notoriety, a fan base, public recognition since the beginning, otherwise he'd be Mr. Nelson. I'm not going to argue on the blatantly obvious...

Thanks wild. That's a sweet sentiment, I appreciate it. hug
I know it aint the dinner proposition that got ur attention.. giggle

I mostly come here 2 have fun, have a laugh. Impose my sick, dry sense of humor on u all... lol
I'm not a musician so wouldn't dare 2 b overly critical of the music. I appreciated reading others points of view tho. People much more knowledgeable in that respect. In most cases it's been refreshing and enlightening.
Loved keeping up 2 date with tours and other fans personal xperiences..
AND I saw no harm in starting and contributing 2 picture threads, sometimes having a laugh at Prince's xpense. I never really thought of it that way tho, b4 all this drama. That it was at his xpense. I guess I craved my own 15 seconds of fame, the time it took 2 read those posts usually.. B the class clown, budding comedian..GUILTY. 4give me. Laughing is good 4 the soul apparently...
Anyhow, as long as Prince's people hadn't issued warnings and objections 2 those goings on, I figured he may've been ok with it, but as the old adage goes, u give people an inch and they take a mile, and things gradually got out of hand.
People laying claim 2 photos, websites in particular.. branding them. Less than flattering pics appearing accompanied by rude crude and sometimes negative comments...that's no fun, and it certainly isn't a 'God given right' as some would have us blieve. neutral
Honestly what would new and younger fans conclude from all of this? Is it a positive vibe and message we're conveying overall? Is it inline with that of the artist 2DAY? shrug
So following these devolopments, and the personal request from Prince (albeit thru his representatives) 2 stop. I did. Well, I tried...til yesterday.
I thought no more pics, not even an avatar, no more jokes, no more discussion, as requested..but being curious by nature, while the org is still up n running, I thought I can keep reading. C what other people think about all of this. Take some timeout 2 think things thru 4 MYSELF. So that's what I did, and what happens!? Lines and lines of utter crap, hatred, finger pointing, disrespectful garbage posted in an attempt 2 bring other people down under the guise of a common cause...FREE SPEECH? What a flippin joke..seriously.
Emotive language and comments playing on people's fears, especially the site adminstrators.. Let's face it, it's no fun being issued with legal warnings, I know that 1st hand...
So here we have Ben, and all the other faceless people moderators etc who run this site having 2 take responsibility 4 every other cowards actions...feeling somewhat threatened and vulnerable, probably befriended by the other sites that go 2 make up PFU.. "Never u mind...surely there's safety in numbers...Join us..join us..." demon
It was just all 2 much, I had 2 vent.
Not only that... 2 some degree I feel personally responsible. sad

This is probably the last I'll say about all of this publicly, honestly.. I'll try harder.. but if there's 1 point I feel I need 2 make it's this.
Let each and every 1 of us take responsibilty 4 our own actions... We all know the difference between right and wrong. Hopefully we will all strive at some point in our life 2 b honest, respectful people. Honest and respectful 2 ourselves 1st and 4most, and then others.. even in online communities..
Can u imagine living in a housing estate or something, an apartment building, community, where people displayed publically the behaviour that's been displayed here of late? Tell u what I wouldn't b stayin there 2 long... and probably slap my way out past all the vermin.
It was fun while it lasted, and believe it or not while it had Princes support, bcause the fact that this hadn't eventuated sooner is simply bcause Prince chose not 2 pursue this course of action. Thats what I believe anyway.
Ben and others.. I'm sorry it's turned out this way, I feel 4 u.
Drop the fight.. Think of what u stand 2 gain, and of course what u stand 2 lose thru all of this. Swallow ur pride. 4get the mob mentality and do ur best 2 erradicate it from ur boards ASAP, even if it means shutting the place down.
I have been downright disgusted by some things on here and i'm livid and feel ashamed 4 each and every 1 of us.

And finally, if it does come 2 the un4tuneate scenario where Princes legal eagles impose a monetary damages claim against this site, rest assured that I 4 1 will b financially contributing 2 that, taking full responsibility 4 my actions. U have my email, contact details. Let me know.
They say a picture is worth 1000 words, let's c how much Mr Nelson thinks theyre worth in USD... lol
Far out, I mustve posted over 200 pics.. doh! bringiton

Thanks 4 the opportunity, and my apologies if my comments leaves a sour taste in any1s mouths...

First of all, unless you're being really crafty and you've definitely got something to hide, there's no complete anonymity on the internet. Don't believe me? Threaten a certain someone in the White House and time how fast the men in black get to your door!

And second, the world was a cruel place long before the internet and cell phones! Always has been, always will be! Get over it!

While you and Prince are busy bawl in your Cap' N' Crunch about the bad things we mean people say about him because we're hiding behind our computer screens. The majority of us remember the bad things that meaner people have said to our faces because we like him and his music in the first place!

Back in the day before the internet and cellphones, when Prince was all mysterious and ego tripping like crazy(well yeah, I very well could be talking about just yesterday but try to follow the story anyway!wink) There weren't any real life places I could go and hang out where the number of people that liked Prince outnumbered the people that didn't! Until I started joining fan clubs in the magazines 98% of the time it was just me and The Electrifying Mojo! Especially after his "Around The World And A Day" period!

If he heard the vile things people would say to my face if I mentioned Raspberry Beret or Paisley Park, his big baby butt probably wouldn't be here! I can't even tell you how times I've heard that..."How can you like Prince..." statement before somebody started getting on my damn nerves because of him, his music or something trippy he did...just because I happen to like him and his music...alot!

You know what...I guess that's why I'm so pissed at him. I've had to fight for the right to enjoy him, his music, his pictures, his videos, for his entire career and now I've got to fight HIM to do the same.

Now, I want a bowl of Cap' N' Crunch because this shit's fucked up! bawl

2 paraphrase an old, but still-sharp saw: The price of participating in a mob is eternal vigilance...
This goes for any type of mob... no matter how smart or how silly... or any type of situation in which 1 allows 1's individuality to be subsumed by a group.

Yes, it would be very interesting to see how some of us would behave if they met Prince in person. Then compare that with some of their threads and see if it matches.
