Web Sheriff posts to the princefansunited site...

Dear Administrators,

Re : EXTREMELY URGENT / YOUR SITE - LIBEL NOTICE

As you know, Web Sheriff represents AEG Worldwide, Paisley Park Enterprises / NPG Records and PRINCE in relation to – inter alia – the above.

We understand that you (ergo your administrators and moderators personally) control the web-site www.princefansunited.com (hereinafter referred to as the “Libellous Site”). We are writing to advise you that our clients consider the Libellous Site to contain defamatory statements – all under the banner ”PRINCE FANS FIGHT BACK AGAINST ATTACKS” which, in itself, we would also say is defamatory - that both libel PRINCE and, equally, that constitute malicious falsehoods injurious to our clients’ business interests (hereinafter referred to as the “Libellous Statements”) including, but not limited to, the following :-

1. In an extraordinary, but not unfamiliar move, the rock legend Prince is using an army of lawyers to launch attacks on his own fans.

2. It is our belief that these threats are not made in an attempt to enforce valid copyright as Prince alleges in his threats, rather we believe they are attempts to stifle all critical commentary about Prince.

3. It is their hope that Prince will reconsider his position and allow these fansites to continue their existence without constant threats from Prince and his attorneys.

Our clients consider the above statements to be both factually incorrect and misleading and, in all of the circumstances, we would ask you to immediately remove the Libellous Site (as containing the Libellous Statements or anything else that could constitute a libel and / or a malicious falsehood in respect of our clients) : this is particularly urgent, as we gather that your site is about to be publicly launched to the world’s media by means of a press-release and, if this were to happen, the scope for damage to our clients’ reputations (and, equally, the scope for compensatory damages to our clients) would be very significantly increased. Should you fail to comply with our clients’ reasonable request (as contained herein) and, therefore, should you continue to publish the Libellous Statements on a joint and several basis, we would kindly ask you to provide us with the names and addresses of your lawyers in Holland, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, for the purposes of dealing with the appropriate legal actions that shall follow against the officers of your site personally.

We shall look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Whilst writing, we would caution you against communicating any further correspondence or remarks to third parties that could, in any way, be construed as being libellous of PRINCE or that could otherwise constitute a malicious falsehood, injurious to our clients’ business interests. Similarly, we would remind you that this communication is the copyright of Web Sheriff and, as such, any publication and / or dissemination to third parties would be actionable. Furthermore, Web Sheriff cannot be held liable for the consequences of any such publication and / or dissemination in the event that the same originated from yourselves or parties connected to you.

Naturally and notwithstanding the foregoing, all accumulated, worldwide rights and remedies of our clients in this matter remain strictly reserved.

Yours sincerely,

WEB SHERIFF

Do you know what? I'm beginning to think, fuck it. Let Prince stew is he's washed up recording career.

He's been pulling this shit for 10 years. Let him win. Close the sites. Because in winning, he is the only loser.

A fan base will vanish, and the only money making part of his career that will be left will be singing the hits to the casuals.

Totally Agree Squirrel, Its Such A Shame, After A Really Great Year, It Has To End Like This.... U Know I went to see prince 11 times this year at the 02, sometimes by my self, just outta the blue, just because i didn't wanna miss anything, I was so happy, i didn't wanna do anything else... But what P is doing, is crazy, and really making me think "how much do i really like this guy" P when U gonna lighten up dude!?

I'm beginning to think Web Sheriff is afraid of something!

Could it be that when Prince returns from wherever the hell he is, they won't be able to run and show him all the good work they've done on his behalf but instead how they've pissed off more than 90% of his fan base and the news is spreading fast? hmmm

Actually, I've always wondered if you're allowed to do that unless it's Disney or some other big brand and then also post the picture on the internet.
Been also thinking what's the fun of it? Showing off your tatoo to everyone on a huge community like this one where you know P's folks will be able to see it. Well, different strokes for different folks. shrug

Surely these Web Sheriff people are not stupid enough to not know that once a correspondence is sent, it becomes the property of the person who received it.

And if they are that stupid, then a simple "all correspondence to princefansuinted.com is the sole property of princefansunited.com" with a copyright notice blah blah blah.

If one party can throw around a bunch of bullshit legalese that means nothing, then so can another shrug

Here is an article about the web sheriff and how the torrent companies laugh at him. Lawyers looking for a buck.....

"In a move which shows that Prince (or at least his advisers) have a sense of humor, they have hired the infamous Web Sheriff (a division of Entertainment Law Associates), headed up by John Giacobbi to deal with the enforcement. They send out letters like this one - the site in question is of course, still up and running."[quote]

Hell to the YES - exactly. I know people have theories that this is just a way to get attention, but I think this is something Prince's over-inflated head with the help of some dumb fuck lawyers thought they could pull off but it was a really big miscalculation and he will deal with some unpleasant and unforseen circurmstances. I.e., people are literally laughing in his face.

Although, let me ponder if being laughed at in his face and ever phased him before:
1) being called gay
2) boing booed off stage at a Rolling Stones show
3) wearing underwear
4) wearing high heel boots, permanately
5) causing a big stink with WB and writing a word on his face that I found particularly offensive since last time I check that mutha fucker never picked a day of cotton - but he wants to use a word that refers to a whole generation of people that were abused...
6) oh and the whole changing to an unpronouncable name

I could go on and on...if you think about it, Prince seems to relish the controversy he creates. I think he gets off on it. It's just taken a new shape/form, maybe because nothing else he did in the past even phases us anymore.
