Keep up the good fight Ben and P Dot Org...in this day and age when EVERYTHING can be found on the net, what makes Prince think that he can take away pics and music? His image is not copyrighted and any court in this country will see it that way.

Prince, stick to music and videos...get another hobby if ya need to, but leave your fans alone to trade pics and music as they desire.

Better yet, because money seems to be your lone concern lately, put out some CD's and DVD's...your loyal fans will BUY them, yep, the same ones that you're trying to screw over right now.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

This is the message I posted on the PFU site:

"I have been a Prince fan since 1986. In those days, my interest in Prince was fuelled, not just by his music, but by the fans and community built up by the Controversy Fan Club. When Prince conspired, directly or indirectly, to clost that club down I felt it was a very sad day for Prince fans worldwide.

Now history is repeating itself and Prince is doing the same to the best Prince sites on the Net.

This is so sad Prince. How sad that you still feel these sites are detremenal to your success, when they, and fanclubs like Controversy, increased your fanbase and, therefore, your profits. After all, it's stopped being about the music now hasn't it."

And anyone who thinks Prince is hard done by with any of these sites is a complete idiot. In fact, personally speaking, these sites (and Controvery back in the day) fuelled my interest in Prince and made me seek out things I wouldn't have done so without the information I'd had provided to me! How else would I find out about rare 12" singles, through 3121.com?!?! Please!

Oh, and as for bootlegs, yes I own lots of bootleg recordings. How does it detract from Prince's income as none are commercially available. If he were to make them available I would purchase them, as I did with Crystal Ball (in fact, I own two copies!).

Man I'm pissed off!

At first, when he sued the 7 or 8 websites in the 90s, I thought it was a stupid move, simply because most people did not view those fansights as stealing material so much as promoting the prolific genius of Prince. Sure, he had ever right to do it, as the material was all bootleg, etc. , but those fansites were like giant billboard signs that shouted "Hey, look at Prince--he's fuckin' awesome!"
But now, I'm not even sure he has to right to do the things he's asking? I mean, how are we supposed to refer to him? Is Parody protected speech? How far does he need to take it?

Somwhere between that first experience and a couple of years ago, I finally had to give up my state of being completely enamoured by Prince and resigning to the fact that "Sure, he's an asshole, but he's brilliant. I'll seperate the man from the music."

But now, even the music doesn't sound as good. Forgive my terse comparison, but Adolf Hitler was responsible for the Autobahn, which revolutionized the way German economy was setup and increased its productivity by eons. But he was still Adolph Hitler you know? I simply can't enjoy Prince's music the same way.

People are not stupid, nor are they irrational. If Prince wants everyone to praise him and his music, than the best route for him to take is to act praise worthy and release music worth praising.

I guess I was being far too hopeful when I breathed a sigh of releif after Musicology that Prince wouldn't do any career ending move (like he does after every big hit), but I guess I was wrong.

I mean, just a couple of months ago, the org received a memo to take down my LoveChunky picture, depicting a "fat" Prince on the cover of LoveSexy. It's as if Parody is not protected speech anymore to the man.

i guess he just wants to retire and make people forget all about him, so
i say go ahead and piss off already. we'll just spin your good records,
the ones you released in the 80's and some of the ones you released in
the 90's and the two decent ones you released this decade.

if you wanna do us one last favor before you close the book on us all,
put out some digitally remasterd copies of your good music, the tunes
that made you the icon you are. the ones you're allowing to be sold in
stores to this very day in a quality that is nowhere near the level it
could be. strange, for such a perfectionist who wants to control every
single aspect of his carreer, you'd allowe the one thing that made you
to dwindle like that and be on sale, representing you, in lousy quality

yeah yeah, we shouldn't send you our wishinglist. we're only fans after
all. people who supported you and loved you for the free thinking, love
preaching wild motherfucker you were.

still, i have to implore, stop whining and release some remasters and
maybe, just maybe people will realise how truly great you were before
you lost the plot somewhere around 1998 and kept spiraling downward to
this sad new depth that we seem to have reached at this moment.

after you've done that you can go fish in lake minnetonka till you're 80.

but please, whatever you decide, enough with the drama already rolleyes

I am not understanding Prince...why do such things!? If it wasn't for his fans, where would he be? Why does he continue to do such stupid things? Doesn't he see what he is doing to all of us? Does he want all of us to just forget about him, stop supporting him? I am upset, and pissed! Prince pull your head out of your ass, and realize if it wasn't for us die hard fans you would be NOTHING! disbelief

Can we just changed the org name to

thefansiteformerlyknownasprince.org

and when we "talk" about him we can refer to him as "he who must not be named."

Stupid, I know. But didn't he use the whole formerly known as bit so we could all know it was Purple Rain Prince who he was referring to...

Oh wait. I forgot. It was "spiritual" reason for the name change...never mind.

I've felt for a long time that the org should be renamed www.theorg.org for a while now and not be related to Prince at all lol

wow. i go to work for a couple of hours, and come back to THIS?
yikes.

well, as always i'm chock full of ideas/statements.

the first thing i'll say is.....

remember when i WARNED people that getting tattoos of ANY artists was a BAD idea, because you never know if that artist will do something to change your mind/opinion? i bet there's a few of ya'll that wish you hadn't done that now, eh? no worries. a really GOOD tattoo artist will be able to cover that up.

now. on to my ideas on this subject.
some have stated that there's really nothing that you as fans can do about this. i beg to differ.

FIRST of all, and i know Ben doesn't have to listen to me but i'd change the name of this place with the quickness. as a matter of fact, i'd hold a contest with the Orgers to come up with something. www.purplenazi.org sounds freaking hilarious to me. (i didn't come up with "purple nazi", but i sure as hell am going to be wearing that out)

AND then, back to the fans.

I SERIOUSLY think that we, the Prince fans should stage some sort of protest. We know how rabid and loyal Prince fans as a group are, and Prince has ALWAYS taken that for granted. NOW, i think that we should use that strength and stand up for ourselves. I know that I would go whereever for something like that.

If it's in Minneapolis? fine. Make it anywhere. Chicago, LA, NYC, Detroit, whereever. Have multiple ones in many cities, but make them all on the same date. But there'd have to be some central theme/advertising done to get more bang for the buck. Try to get some local news coverage. I think a couple hundred Prince fans staging a "Prince-out" and smashing their cd's and burning some effigies would sure get the local media's attention.

Prince needs to understand that enough is enough. We as fans don't need to be told how to think about him. He's not our f-ing father!!!

I'm going to leave it at that, because there's a lot of other insults/profanity that's bubbling to the surface, but we're trying to keep it civil.

That's all i've got for now.

At first it seems like the collective bullshit of almost 10 years ago, all over again.

But this time, we've had a decade of crappy official sites to tell us that the alternative to well-managed unofficial fan sites is just one big shitty offficial site that leaves us all in the dark until it's all happened.

Any fan who supports Prince on this, is a walking turd.

there lies the problem just because you invested time or money doesn not mean you OWN some one or have the right to do or say what you please at the expense of the person in question

your BOSS doesn't own you they feel they do because the employ you
your own Parents don't own you they do hav the right to guide or suggest
the decision or path one takes is in their mind and jurisdiction

Wait a minute. We don't have the right to discuss someone? What makes Prince so special that no one can discuss him? Look at all the news programs that discuss George Bush, Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama, or any of the other presidential candidates. Everything said about them is not always rosy and not always true either but that's life. People are going to talk regardless and no one should have the right to stop them.

What's next. Is Prince going to have everyone's telephones bugged because they might be discussing him over the phone. Is he going to all the stores and public places bugged just in case his name is spoken in there. What about the record store? People are going to have to speak his name in order to ask for his new CD.

What Prince wants is more than just shutting some fans' mouths. Prince wants to be a dictator and even non-Prince fans should get involved in not letting that happen.
