u know whats even more interesting...WS who professes to know so much about the law does not even realize that it is a violation of the DMCA to send out copyright infringement notices when the person has not committed infringement, i.e. having one's entire photobucket account removed which includes pictures of their grandchildren. It is also tortious interference with a contract when they have these hosting sites remove your copyrighted material.

If someone wanted to, they could take legal action against WS. I guarantee you it would only take one award of damages to make him rethink how he operates. wink

pplrain...u really need a reality check sweetie.

no one is trying to distribute his work. the whole point of prince.org and housequake.com is to promote his work without any financial gain. the sites are just for like minded invidiuals who appreciate his talent. as goes with the territory, some people get more into than others, like wanting to see the latest pic, etc. others take a different approach, by actively seeking to discuss his albums, etc.

I can think of many times that the existence of these sites has been financially beneficial to Prince (while Ben, Endre nor Aaron are benefitting financially, in fact they PAY for these sites out of their own funds). There wsa a recent thread that said I really discovered the funky Prince and want to buy more music, what do you suggest I buy?

These boards were able to offer that answer two-fold, they pointed that person to all of Prince's discography (which htw, he wants removed from the sites), and other members were able to actively engage in conversations with this customer of Prince to make suggestions on which albums to buy.

Think about it...

I hope Prince.org is more interested in maintaining the community, than challenging any grey legal matters.
If there's any problems with Prince, I'm sure everyone will round up, and air grievances over at HQ. ENOUGH! mad

I'm unaware of Prince.org restricting membership based on one's occupation.
eek

Well, since WS's occupation is the ONLY reason he's here, to me that makes a difference. It's not like he's a fan who is here to participate in the community, he's here to hold a legal hammer over us. But, keep burying your heads in the sand, it is less painful than reality.

Reality? Reality is (as sos wrote): You don't need an account here to read what people have posted! You can't stop WS from reading/checking things here, unless you lock the whole org up and make it accessible to members only. Great forum, then...

I NEVER thought I'd say this, but: If you're dumb enough to place pics of Prince (which are ALWAYS copyrighted) in your MySpace/Photobucket acct, then you DESERVE to have it shut down. I'm willing to bet there isn't a single P fan out there who isn't aware that Prince goes after people who post the pics without acknowledging copyright/having permission.
As for some Web Sheriff ( award goes to this character for the world's stupidest name falloff hah! ) going after The Org, good luck. The mods have always been very good at removing stuff that's illegal and/or break the rules of the site, I think P knows this. I also think this so-called WS (again, falloff and hah! ) does WAY more than he/she/they are paid to do initially, like going after The Org - P probably would pay him/her/them if they found something to shut The Org down for, but they won't so it's a lot of work for nothing.
WS, sure. rolleyes

I have nothing nice to say about/to Websheriff so I'll abstain on that front; but I did want to post an a propos image of my (other) favorite artist, Marcel Duchamp. biggrin

Something tells me Mr. Websheriff is familiar with the Bucket Shop mentioned in the poster.

Pro, go get a life! mad

Prince is just trying to protect his work. After his Warner Bros fiasco... don't you think he should be able to have a say on how he wants his music distributed??

I am sure if you were in his place you would do the same thing...

Why are you promoting hate if you are his "fan"?

The point being made is that Prince isn't the copyright holder in the majority of these cases.

Things like this WebSheriff dude do raise questions about forum policies.
After all, a poster like that could operate within site rules at all times, yet have a severe destableizing effect on the site as a whole.

Hey Teach - I'm good thanks (other than the extra workload caused by all this legal stuff !)

Hope you're well too.
