Unsolicited Amazon links

I noticed something recently. When I post in a thread, certain words will automatically link to Amazon.com. I cannot edit this link, and the link may not have anything to do with the point I'm trying to make. This makes it look like I support the link, when I may not support it.

Stop the automatic linking to Amazon.

I noticed this too.

I managed to block the Google ads, but these annoying links persist.

I would have to agree.

The Google ads are not *so* bad, at least people know they're advertising. The Amazon links are kind of misleading tho, as they at first look like the poster might have put them there themselves.

Yes, it's misleading, and sometimes in bad taste when the post is on a serious/tragic subject.

I'm tired of clicking a link, thinking I'm going to find out more about something related to the thread, only to get taken to some book at amazon which has NOTHING to do with the thread.

BY FAR the LAMEST change this site has done.

Ben?
Matt?

Yeah... I hear what you're saying. I'm not sure, but it's probably a paid ad for Amazon and most likely cutting down on the costs of running this site.

C'mon, if it's helping Ben meet the costs - we should support his efforts. All this bling on this site isn't free y'know. confused

I'm sure it is paid for by Amazon, and the Google ads are fine. I can go around them. But automatic links to a random book within my post is misleading. These are supposed to be MY words, thoughts and ideas. Linking to a book makes it look like I endorse it, when I might not. Its putting words in my mouth, and that is misleading and wrong.

My words should NOT be automatically linked. I do NOT endorse amazon. MY WORDS are being MISREPRESENTED.

I'm having a dilemma; i know easily how to block these links, but as it is, this is a free website. I think Ben could use the extra income to pay for the org's harware 'n stuff.

But then again, potentially changing the meaning of a post is not done confused
